This Is H-Town

Welcome to Houston, Texas. Home to the most frequent traffic accidents, the largest rodeo in the world, and the best food you can't get anywhere else.

Now I know what you are thinking, Houston, Texas, why would anyone want to live there. The city is spread out over a 40 mile radius, you will be commuting everywhere. You will be to prepare yourself to spend hours in your car, and spending hundreds on gas. This is the reality of living in Houston, if you hate driving I suggest you live somewhere else.

If you can get over spending half your day in the car, be aware of the hundreds of accidents you will get to witness along 610 and 59. This is a death trap, you will soon learn that no one in Houston knowns how to drive, so take extra precaution when entering the interstate. Eventually you will adjust, and realize that everything you thought you knew about driving just throw it out the window. You're better off basing your driving skills on Mario Cart.

Houston however does have some redeeming qualities about it, for example Houston does host the largest Rodeo in the world. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, is a great attraction for the whole family. From carnival games, to fried food, to the livestock show, and a dozen appearances by country artists the rodeo has it all!

Again be prepared to spend some extra cash, THE RODEO ISN'T CHEEP. Everything does add up, but I can say that it is worth it. Having grown up in Houston, I have attended the rodeo since the time I was little. There is something new and exciting every year, and each time I walk though the gates I get the same overwhelming feeling of excitement!

** For clarification, this is NOT the state fair ** You will not being seeing Big Tex, so don't get your hopes up.

Houston is also home to the Texans, the Rockets, the Astros, and the Dynamo. If you're a big sports fan, like myself, than Houston is will feed your hunger for sports. I can honestly say though I am a loyal Chicago fan, but I do enjoy a Rockets game every now and then. Downtown is the Hub for each sports team, so during game days it can be a little hectic. Downtown is already hard enough to navigate, add thousands of fan crowding the street it will be an all day event.

Houston is known for its food, and food is something that is loved by all. Houston has a great selection for great date night spots, family destinations, or even just an outing with a group of your girlfriends! From BBQ, to burgers, to seafood, to Mexican food Houston has you covered! You will never run out of places to eat in Houston, since Houston is so big there are so many great options spread out along the greater Houston area!

I know its hard to talk about Houston as a Houstonain, but I am proud to be from the H. I can't say that is where I will end up after I graduate, but it will always be home. Thank you Houston for all the memories, I'll see you soon!

two women enjoying confetti

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
