Thinking Of Your Future When Making Hard Decisions

As we grow up and many aspects of our lives begin to change, we will most likely have to make some very difficult decisions. These decisions will have a huge impact on our own lives, as well as those who we love and care about. While facing these decisions can bring about all sorts of emotions, we must always remember to take a step back and try to focus our attention on the bigger picture and how our decisions will help us get to where we want to be in life.

What is this bigger picture and how can it help us to make difficult decisions in life a little easier?

It is obviously going to vary for every single person and every situation you may come across. Decisions such as moving to a new place, continuing your education, and starting a new job may all be hard choices we face. Your mind may wander and you might start thinking about aspects that really make your decision more difficult.

Some of the time these thoughts may be focused on your present situation and life as you know it. How will my relationships change if I move away? How can I financially support myself while sticking with this same job? The list of examples could go on and on forever, and they are all questions that complicate the decision even more than you could have expected.

While it is a very good idea to think about these aspects of the present, you should not let them shift your focus from what the decision may bring you in the long run. Don't let them become your primary focus of the choice you are making, rather let them guide you to think more rationally about the future prospects of your decision.

Think about where you want to be financially in a few years and what you can do now to get there. Think about how moving or switching jobs may bring you endless opportunities for growth and happiness in your future. Focus on where you want to be, and let that simplify the decisions you have to make.

While I am a huge supporter of living in the present and not being future oriented, I believe that remembering your long-term goals to help guide your decisions makes everything a whole lot easier.

Yes making some changes in your life will be very difficult in the present moment, but sometimes these troubles are necessary to get you to where you want to be. Think about what you really want in life and how what you decide now can get you closer to that goal.

I'm not saying it will be easy, honestly, it may be one of hardest things you ever do; but with your future in mind to help guide you, the decisions you have to make may become a whole lot easier.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
