Things You'll Miss When You Go To College

You don't know what you've got until it's gone (or rather, you've left).

If you're reading this article, you're probably one of the hundred of thousands of students who are about to move away from home to go off to college. Whether you're about to be a freshman or a senior, there are some things that we're all going to miss about home.

1. Sick Days

Waking up sick is never fun but what are we going to do when we are at college and Mom or Dad isn't there to bring us medicine and an extra blanket? I'll never forget the nights I spent staying up late coughing my lungs out from allergies and my mom would come in and ask if there was anything she could do for me. We can only hope that our roommates are as nice as our moms.

2. Pets

What am I going to do without waking up every morning and letting my two dogs out into the back yard and then turning around to see all of my cats begging for my attention at the same time? Can I even get dressed if my clothes aren't covered in dog fur? The day I realize that I don't have a pet to trap in my bedroom and force to love be back is going to be a rough one.

3. Laundry

My parents stopped doing my laundry a long time ago but it is going to be rough when you're judged for having a pile of two weeks worth of dirty clothes and there is no where to hide them. Also: unlimited laundry detergent!

4. Parking

Not having to walk a mile from your parked car to your dorm room was really a blessing in disguise. Oh, the days when I could park my car and be in my bed in thirty seconds flat. I'll never again complain about the walk from the back of the parking lot of my high school to the University Center.

5. Family

Even though in the last few years my family wasn't home much, I'll still miss being able to see them when they get home. The every day things that you don't notice like saying "Hey bud!" when your brother walks in the door or giving your dad a hug after he's obviously had a long day at work.

6. DVR

I don't know about you all but I've been watching Pretty Little Liars religiously since it first came on when I was in seventh grade. As excited as I am about college, I can't believe that I'll be giving up my favorite show! Sure I could always find a TV with cable and tune in on Tuesdays at 8/7 central but come on commercials! If only I could record things to the DVR like I can at home.

7. Stealing Your Siblings Clothes

Usually, you see sisters close in age borrowing each others clothes or maybe even brothers. I, on the other hand, have a bad habit of stealing my brothers clothes. Keep in mind that my brother is a 6'5, sixteen year old boy and his clothes in no way could be construed to fit me but does that stop me from wearing them? No. Others will surly miss sharing clothes with their siblings as well.

8. Money Mom

I have a bad habit of stopping by my mom's office at City Hall to beg for money. In fact, others who work in her office know that I only ever "visit" for money. Once, I even convinced her secretary to let me borrow ten dollars because my mother refused to fund my Starbucks addiction.

9. Privacy

At home, it doesn't matter if you don't shower all day because you've been laying around eating potato chips and watching Harry Potter but in the dorms, the fear of being judged is always present. That is, until you see your roommates all doing the same thing.

10. Midnight Snacks

You can't really appreciate the endless amount of food flowing from the kitchen pantry until you suddenly have no access to said pantry. Sure you can head out to your local 24 hour food joint but the convenience just isn't there.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
