15 Little Things You Miss When You Are Away From Home

Going away to school means independence, freedom, and a place of your own. This is all very exciting and you barely even feel home sick most of the time. But every once in a while something inside you feels empty when you remember something from home that you miss. You miss the little things from home and "sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in our hearts."

1. You miss your mom telling you to clean your room.

As annoying as it can be to be nagged by your mom to clean your messy room, you miss not having her there to make you tidy up your mess of a room/life.

2. You miss being able to lounge on your couch.

You get tired of having a bed as your only piece of furniture at school to be used for eating, sleeping, and sitting.

3. You miss having time alone.

You love your friends at school and most of the time you love being with them every minute of every day. But sometimes you just want time on your own and thats hard to find at college.

4. You miss being able to feel comfortable going barefoot.

You don't know whats on the floor of your dorm room and forget the bathroom, but at home you know your mom keeps the floor pristine.

5. You miss going to the grocery store with your mom or dad and being able to pick out whatever you want.

At school you're either too poor for that kind of luxurious life or you don't even have a car to get to the store.

6. You miss being able to 💩 freely.

You have to plan it so that no one is in the bathroom and if someone comes in mid 💩 then all your work was for nothing and you have to stop and pretend like nothing was happening. At home, you can drop it anytime you want.

7. You miss not having to share a bathroom with what seems like a million other people.

You used to sing in the shower and now you can't -- what a way to live.

8. You miss being able to sit in your towel for an hour after you get out of the shower.

If you have an awesome roommate they won't mind, but if not you don't get to have those beautiful peaceful moments with just you and your towel.

9. You miss the smell of your house.

We all know our houses have a distinct smell and to us it smells like home. If only we could make a candle of the exact scent and bring it with us to college.

10. You miss the blankets that you have at your house.

There is nothing better than swaddling yourself in a blanket that has five years of snuggles in it but is as comfy as ever.

11. You miss your own bed.

No matter how many layers of foam, egg crates, and blankets you put on your bed at school it's just not your bed at home.

12. You miss the food from home.

Whether your mom, dad, or favorite pizza place makes, it makes you feel empty when it's in a different state than you.

13. You miss good WiFi.

Your school says they have good free WiFi, but let's be real -- it hardly ever works. You miss that good old unbreakable connection you had at home.

14. You miss your mom doing laundry for you.

Putting in quarters, separating colors, and trying to remember what setting to put the damn washer on is just too much. Can I mail all my laundry home?

15. You miss your pet.

Honestly how do we survive at school without our furry friends?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
