7 Things You Will Inevitably See At A Virginia Tech Football Game

It's here, folks. Fall season is here, which means football season is upon us. There are plenty of reasons why to get excited during football season and here's a list compiling all of it together.

1. Maroon and orange.

Everywhere you go, you will find everyone is wearing maroon and orange. People-no, Hokies-bleed maroon and orange.

2. Enter Sandman.

You will hear this song by Metallica blaring from Hokie Vision and instantly START JUMPING! It's a tradition here at Tech we like to uphold. As the Virginia Tech Hokies run into Lane Stadium and jump to touch the Hokie Stone on top of the gate entrance out of the locker room, fans cheer wildly to cheer on their favorite Virginia team.

3. Skipper.

No, this is not a nickname for a sailor, but a very important name for the famous cannon the Corps of Cadets fire whenever the Virginia Tech Hokies score a touchdown. When the quarterback makes his throw into the end zone, Lane Stadium is in a roar and the cannon goes BOOM!

4. The Hokie Pokey.

No, I'm not kidding. Grown men and women do the Hokie Pokey during the third quarter and dance around to the infamous song, Hokie Pokey. It's real, y'all.

5. Throwing people in the air.

Speaking of scoring touchdowns, (did I mention that) when the Hokies score a touchdown, people go wild. And when people go wild, they throw stuff. Or people. Whichever. The fans all across the stadium grab the lightest person they see and lift them up in the air however many touchdowns we have scored so far in that game. All across Lane Stadium, you see people being thrown in the air multiple times. And it's also really fun to see the Corps of Cadets being thrown in the air and doing push-ups to however many touchdowns there are (not at the same time, lol).

6. Airplanes.

Real or fake, airplanes do fly over the stadium all game long. At the start of the game and when the Hokies score a touchdown, airplanes fly all over the stadium. And not just real ones, fake ones too! People fold up paper airplanes and throw them an attempt to make their creation on the field. It may seem illegal, but it's all fun and games.

7. Coach Frank Beamer and the rest of the Hokies. Enough said.

Let's just focus on the fact that we get to go to Lane Stadium every home football game. It's beautiful, isn't it? Virginia Tech is possibly the greatest university in the world and Lane Stadium is just one proud reason of many, many reasons.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
