Things I Wish I'd Done This Summer

The summer bucket list that I didn't finish.

Things I Wish I'd Done This Summer

Summer always goes by way too fast. Although I love fall, I'm not ready for it to be here yet. School will be starting soon and before we know it, the weather will start getting colder and colder. Having summer jobs also makes it harder to do all the things you want to during the warm summer months.

Here is a list of things I wanted to do this summer but didn't.

Paddle boarding

For the past few summers I have wanted to try paddle boarding and still haven't. There aren't any places near where I live to rent paddle boards so that is the main reason. I don't even think I'd be that good at it, but it looks like it would be enjoyable. Hopefully, I will try it out soon!

Hiking

I cannot believe I haven't gone hiking once this summer (unless you count May as summer). I live near so many trails and I just haven't gone because I haven't had time and when I do, I have no one to go with because everyone else is working. It's not like you can't hike in the fall and some of the winter, so it's okay.

Go to the lake

When I think of summer, I think of the lake. It really upsets me that I haven't been this summer. I enjoy doing all the things that go along with the lake. My favorites are fishing, kayaking, swimming, four wheeling, campfires, s'mores, and barbecues.

Go on a road trip with friends.

I have wanted to go on road trip with friends for so long, even before I got my license. You see it on TV and in movies all the time and it looks like it would be a blast.

Go to the drive in movies

Pretty recently a drive-in movie theater opened up a little over two hours away from where I live. I don't remember where I first saw them but they fascinate me. I like the idea of them. They seem more relaxed than an actual movie theater and seem more fun to me, especially if you were to go with a group of friends.

Get a tan

I say this every year. It never happens. I'm pretty sure it's impossible for me to get a tan unless it's the spray variety. I'm tragically pale.

Go to a fair

I used to go the Blue Hill Fair in Blue Hill, Maine every year when I was younger with my sister and our parents. I haven't been to the Blue Hill Fair in a while but have gone to the Bangor Fair a couple of years ago. It's so much fun to go with your friends, especially at night. I love the rides, food, games, and booths ranging from selling items like clothing to doing henna.

Go camping

I haven't been camping in quite a few summers. It used to be one of my favorite things to do yearly. We would drive up to East Grand Lake, pitch a tent and it would be the highlight of my summer. Now not all of my family ever gets the same days off so we haven't gone in a while.

Kayaking

I used to be afraid to go kayaking, I don't really know why. I guess I was just scared to tip over. I wear a life jacket and I can swim so the worst that could happen is that I could get wet. Now I love to go kayaking and it's a nice workout too. It makes me feel so calm, relaxed and like nothing else matters.

Travel to certain places in Maine

I absolutely love my beautiful state and there are so many places in Maine that I want to explore. You'd probably be surprised at how many places I haven't been for living here my whole life. It's fun being a tourist in your own state.

I can't believe that summer is basically over and I didn't even do some of the simple things I wanted to do. Some of the activities I listed I can do in the fall so I still have time and there's alway next summer! Now it's time to start a fall bucket list before it gets too cold.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
