8 Things We All Need To Say More Often
Pexel

It’s easy to get swept up into your own routine where the world around you seems to just be background noise. We’re all constantly busy with our own agendas that we forget about some key things that truly matter. Quite frankly, I think people are becoming extremely disconnected from each other, so here are some things that we could say more often to not only reconnect but to also be a bit more kind:

1. How are you?

This one is easy. Just ask people how they’re doing AND actually, stop to listen to what they say. Way too often I hear people, and even catch myself saying “Hi, how are you?” to someone and keep walking like a question wasn’t just asked. I know everyone’s busy with their own lives but you never know who may actually need to talk.

2. I’m sorry.

Too many good relationships are ruined over someone’s pride getting in the way. Take a step back and evaluate what really matters, apologize and move on. Now, of course, it’s a whole different issue if you’re the one constantly apologizing while the other person thinks they can do no wrong. In that case, reevaluate if you should have them in your life at all.

3. Excuse me.

Whether it’s trying to get through a crowded area, asking for help or simply disturbing someone who looks busy, being polite can make a bigger impact than aggression.

4. Thank you.

Do I even need to explain this one? Didn’t think so. Moving on.

5. Bless you.

The awkward silence after a sneeze is actually the worst. Gesundheit works too if you prefer, but just the acknowledgment is so much better than the silence.

6. I miss you

Life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes. So when something reminds you of someone or they just happen to cross your mind, reach out. Sure maybe it’s been awhile or the reason you stopped talking wasn’t the best but time heals all.

7. I love you.

Love isn’t implied. Sometimes we could all use the reminder that we matter to someone and that they will always be there when we need them to be.

8. I appreciate you.

We take for granted the people in our lives that have been there for as long as we can remember. This includes our parents, longtime friends, siblings, etc. These are people that often are in our lives unconditionally but we fail to acknowledge that they could easily not be. I think it’s important to remind them of how much they mean to us from time to time.

The world is full of anger and hostility. You may not think so, but what you project into the world matters. So I encourage everyone reading this to be a little nicer and more conscious of what types of behaviors you’re putting out there. It could make all the difference.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
