Hello future brides, bridesmaids, grooms, etc! If you're planning for your wedding day, you're going to want to make everything perfect, I'm sure. Whether it's a big wedding or a small ceremony, you'll want all the details set before the big day so you can enjoy every moment.
With that said, though, there are a few things I didn't know, and I wish I did before I began planning my wedding. Here's what you should know while you plan for your special day:
1. Things will go wrong.
I know what you're thinking "Nope, I've been planning this for years! Everything is going to go perfect." Truth is, nobody is perfect. Though you spent so much time perfecting every detail and double-checking with vendors, something is bound to happen unexpectedly. Go with it!
2. No one's opinion matters besides that of you and your significant other.
Wedding planning is no joke! One day you feel as if everything is planned exactly how you want it and all it takes is one person's opinion to change your mind. We're human, in the back of our heads, we will always be worried about what everyone else thinks. STOP! If you and your future husband or wife are happy with the decision, that's all that matters.
3. Stick to your budget.
It may not seem like much when you overspend on a certain category, but everything adds up. There will be many last-minute expenses the week of your wedding, you'll thank yourself later for sticking to your budget.
4. Put your foot down.
This is one of the most important days of your life! You do not need any type of stress interrupting this moment. If someone is adding more stress to your life, it's time you put your foot down. Have a talk with that person before things escalate.
5. Remember you can't make everyone happy.
This is a big one. As I mentioned in no. 2, no one else's opinion matters. People are always going to have something to say. Stick to what you and your partner want, this is a day you two will cherish for the rest of your life.
6. Explore your invitation options
There are many vendors who overcharge on wedding invitations because they know you need them and will pay whatever price you need to. There are also many sites online that allow you to do them yourself by uploading your own pictures and choosing your own design, font, etc.
7. Require people to RSVP.
My husband and I decided not to require people to RSVP, but I wish I would have. We expected more people than the number that came to celebrate with us and as a result, had a ton of food left over. It may be a little more stressful to make sure everyone RSVPs, but if you take this step, there will be the perfect amount of food.
8. Choose your wedding dress train wisely.
When deciding on your wedding dress, be sure to ask how the dress will look when the train (if any) is picked up and make sure you are comfortable with it. My wedding dress had a long train and it wasn't until the day I picked it up that I realized we hadn't gone over how the train would look picked up. We went over a few options but I felt rushed and chose the fastest one. Now that I look back on my reception photos, I wish I would've chosen a different style.
The gist of this is: your Wedding Day is a once in a lifetime experience! Be sure it makes you happy.
