14 Activities To Cross Off Your Summer Bucket List

I am sure students have realized that school starts in a few weeks, and they've wasted their summer. Now you're trying to cram in two months worth of activities into three weeks. Let me make it easy on you with the summer bucket list of things to do before school starts. Here are 14 things to do in the 14 days left before school.

1. CDC Museum

The Center for Disease Control Museum was probably not on your list of things to do this summer, but it is a unique experience even if you are not into science. The museum allows you to get an inside look on what goes on in the CDC, and how they use technology to understand diseases. It requires reservation if you want a guided tour, but a self-guided tour is just as amusing. And since it is free admission, you have nothing to lose.

2. Beach

Going to the beach is a must do during the summer. And if you ruled out the beach because you did not want to drive all the way to Savannah to visit Tybee Island, then you should know there is a beach in Acworth. Acworth Beach is as authentic as any other beach even though instead of the ocean it is on the shore of Lake Acworth. This free beach has many recreations for people of all ages and interests. You can go boating, fishing, play volleyball, have a picnic and play on the playground. You can make your trip to the beach an all day affair.

3. Pig Out

I know during the summer everyone one wants to stay healthy and maintain their summer body, but I give you permission to have a cheat day. If you do not eat out at least once or indulge in some ice cream then you did not experience a true summer. The summer is the perfect excuse to eat junk food since there are always barbecues and parties going on.

4. Pool

One of the best ways to spend your final days of summer is at the pool. You can never go wrong chilling at the pool, and the best part is that most public pools are apart of a recreation center, so there is a lot to do in that one area, so you get the most out of your money.

5. Netflix Spree

If there is anything we all know about the start of school, it is that you will not have time to binge watch your favorite shows anymore. So make the most out of your day by never leaving your room and staying on the computer all day! Seriously though, you can make watching Netflix a good use of your time by making it a game of Netflix roulette, or just simply finding new shows to watch this summer.

6. Movie Theater

This activity does cost money, but with all the new movies that come out in the summer, it is totally worth it. The end of summer is the best time to go to the movies, because all the summer movies are out, and the ones that came out in the beginning of summer are cheaper because there are new ones to replace them. And if going to the movies is too expensive, having a movie night at home is equally at home, and probably more comfortable, since you can pause and your chair will the sofa or your bed.

7. Sleep

Whether you curl up with your dog or have a sleepover with some friends, sleeping is the best way to spend a break. A sleepover also makes a good summer activity where you can incorporate other things on this list like pigging out, watching movies and going on a Netflix spree. The best part is, this can take place any day at any time because during the break there is no schedule... only freedom.

8. Park

As simple as going to the park sounds, it is a fun way to spend the day. You can go with friends and family and play sports, because no park visit is complete without basketball, tennis, or just an open field to run around in. Then finish the day with a picnic or some ice cream. The park makes an acceptable activity to do before school starts.

9. Hiking

Georgia has a plethora of mountains and trails to go hiking on. If you are not the most outdoorsy person, you can walk trails like the Silver Comet Trail, which is also good for bike riding since it is even terrain, but if you enjoy rougher trails, take a mountain hike, such as on the Hurricane Falls trail. There are so many beautiful locations in Georgia that any trail you chose will make for a wonderful experience

10. Camping

In the spirit of going on hikes, camping is even better if you like roughing it. Camping is an activity you can do in a couple of days without too much planning, so it is perfect for those last few days of summer break.

11. Star Gazing

This may sound boring to some, but if you turn it into an astronomy party, then staring at big balls of burning gas millions of miles a way is a lot more interesting. Invite your friends or family to gaze at the stars and have a competition to find the most constellations, which is perfect because July is one of the best times to spot the most constellations. Also, in Georgia, sparklers with 100 of mixture or less are permitted, or if you have left over fire works from the fourth of July, this is a great time to use them. All this can be done in your backyard, so it is something you can do easily before school starts.

12. Mini Vacation

With summer break coming to an end, there is not a lot of time to be going on trips... or is there? Weekend vacations can be the highlight of your break, and you don't even have to go far. Taking a trip to the more touristy location of your state and engaging in the attractions they have there is all you need to do to have a vacation. If it is possible for your family to spend the night in a hotel it makes the trip seem so much more real.

13. Museums

Many museum have free admission, like the Georgia Museum of Natural History and the Georgia Museum of Art, or they just have a low fee to enter. There are plenty of art, history and nature museums to explore, and since many are free, it is an easy thing to just get up and do. You can also tour the Capitol Building, but you must make a reservation in advance, so it might not bet the best choice when you have time restraints. If you go to Athens, Georgia, you'll find many free museums in that area, so you could go to a couple in one day. It also has a Botanical Garden, which is not exactly a museum, but it is a fun and educational way to spend your last days, since it allows you to do so much in one day.

14. Back To School

It has to be done any way, so its better to get it out of the way. Besides, school shopping is the most fun part about going to school. There is something about new clothes, journals, pens and pencils that can make us excited about going to school.

As good as studying for next school year is it is more important to relax and have fun over summer break. Besides, when else do you have free time with no homework to actually enjoy your youth? If you haven't done at least one thing on this list, you will regret your summer break. So what are you waiting for?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
