16 Things to Thank Your Parents For
Lauren Rydzewski

Parents do so much for their kid’s day in and day out throughout the years. Sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of our busy lives we neglect to take the time to thank our parents for all they really do for us. So, mom and dad here's a thank you for all you do for me.

1. Thanks for listening to me.Some days I need to just vent about the annoying girl in my English class, the people at work or that annoying thing somebody did. But thanks for always listening and letting me go on and on no matter what.

2. Thanks for giving me advice. As a kid, I'm gonna mess up a lot (we both know it). But whenever I come to you two about help with a problem, you always give me good advice (I don't always listen, but I really should).

3. Thanks for driving me places. You don't do this now, but before I could drive myself, you both had to take turns chauffeuring me around to friend's houses, practices, school, birthday parties, all of it. Although you don't have to do that anymore, for a very long time you did, so thank you. (I'm sure you're happy that you don't have to do that now).

4. Thanks for taking care of me when I was sick.Whether it was a little cold or a severe illness, you were right by my side nursing me to health. Thanks for countless bowls of chicken noodle soup, running around to get me medicine and keeping me company when I couldn't leave my bed.

5. Thanks for always supporting me.You guys have both always encouraged me to follow my dreams and have been there every step of the way. You're my biggest support system and I wouldn't be where I am today without your guidance, love and support over the years.

6. Thanks for cleaning up after me.Not gonna lie, sometimes rooms looks like a tornado after I walk through it. So thanks for picking up my clothes off of the floor, washing my dishes and even for calling me out when I do it.

7. Thanks for cheering me on.Thank you for the endless hours you invested in going to practices, driving me to games (and staying to watch) and even coaching.

8. Thanks for being role models.I am the person I am today because I had two amazing people to look up to.

9. Thanks for making me laugh.I hate to admit it but sometimes you guys canactuallybe funny. (Sometimes.)

10. Thanks for providing for me.I am blessed to have always had a roof over my head, clothes on my back and food in my stomach thanks to the both of you working hard to take care of me.

11. Thanks for investing in my phases. You spent way too much money on junk like Silly Bandz, fashion trends and activities that I ended up hating a week later. Even if you knew it was a bad idea, you still gave in and let me figure that out for myself.

12. Thanks for worrying about me.For such a long time I thought you guys were so overprotective. As I get older I realize that it really is just because you love me, care about me and want me to be safe and I appreciate it so much.

13. Thanks for teaching me how to do things.Riding a bike, doing laundry, tying my shoes, how to drive, the list goes on and on. But thank you for teaching me so many things and being patient (most of the time) while doing it.

14. Thanks for helping me with homework. You basically had to relearn math for me, I know it wasn’t fun.

15. Thanks for believing in me.Not only have you always believed in me but you've been supportive of my choices and my dreams.

16. Thanks for being the best.I know everyone thinks thattheyhave the best parents but I really do. I can't thank you guys enough. I love you both so much.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
