13 Things Big And Tall Girls Understand

Sometimes, it can be a struggle.

13 Things Big And Tall Girls Understand

There are good and bad aspects of being big/tall. Being big can be a huge asset for sports and athletics. Your body and presence simply control the field/court/etc. Being bigger also helps in the workforce, as employers tend to hire taller, more confident women over shorter women (I'm not saying short women can't be confident, whatsoever). The bad things can include being thought of as less feminine because of your size. There are also things that are neither bad nor good, just things that only these big and tall women understand from experience.

1. You Can’t Borrow Your Friends' Clothes

Being one of the bigger girls in your friend group often means that you can’t share clothes with the rest of your besties because you aren’t the same size. Try as you might to find something that somewhat fits, there is nothing you can borrow that looks okay and/or is comfortable enough to move around in. This always makes you sad because everything seems cuter when it isn’t yours, so you feel like you’re missing out on some cute outfits.

2. You Can’t Sit In The Middle Seat In A Car

When you and your friends all cram into a car for a fun outing, you have to make sure everyone shifts around so that you don’t have to sit in the middle seat in the back. First of all, your legs are too long to fit in that tiny space, and second of all, your head sticks up in the way of the back windshield so the driver can’t see behind them in their rearview mirror. It’s better (and safer) for everyone if you just take shotgun.

3. You Can’t Wear Certain Brands Of Clothes

Some stores just do not sell clothes that fit people built like you. It can be very depressing and upsetting taking clothes into the dressing room and ending up looking like a sausage in everything you try on. You think, “I’m not that fat. Why doesn’t anything fit me in this store?” It’s especially not fun when you go shopping with your smaller friends and they look amazing in everything they put on. Shopping in certain stores can make you feel terrible about yourself and your body even when you’re perfectly healthy and beautiful.

4. Your Weight Is Never Consistent

For some reason, your weight can (and does) fluctuate a few pounds in just one day. It goes up when you’re active and you eat healthy, and goes down when you sit around eating snacks all day. It makes no sense, but it happens. It’s also hard for bigger girls to lose weight and keep it off.

5. You Get A Burst Of Joy When You Meet Someone Who’s Taller/Heavier Than You

When you find someone who is even taller than you, or someone who weighs more than you, you get a confidence boost because if this girl is bigger than you and still looks amazing, maybe you do too! It makes you remember that size is nothing but a number!

6. You Feel Like You Have To Budget Your Food Intake

You feel guilty eating a ton of food at one meal because you don’t want to gain more weight, so you tell yourself you’ll just eat less at the next meal. A big lunch equals a small (or smaller than normal) dinner. It’s so hard though because you love food so much.

7. You Eat More Than Your Friends

You may budget your meals some days, but whenever you and your friends eat together, you’re always the one with a clean plate, and the one who could keep going back for more.

8. Pants Shopping Is The Worst Time Ever

You dread shopping for pants, as do many girls because everyone is made differently, but big girls seem to have an especially hard time. Either the butt fits and the thighs don’t, or the thighs fit but the butt doesn’t. Or everything fits on the legs and butt, but they are way too short to even consider purchasing. Sometimes stores don’t even carry a size big enough to get on, which can be super annoying because then you have to go through the struggle of starting over and looking somewhere else.

9. You Have To Think About Where To Stand In Group Photos

If you’re taking a picture with a big group of people, you often end up in the back row with the guys because you’re so much taller than all of your girl friends. If you’re taking a picture with a few friends, you have to stand in the middle because it just looks weird having such a tall person on the end of the line.

10. Heels Make You A Giant

Without heels, you are close in height to many men, so when you put on heels, you can end up towering over those same guys. You love wearing heels, but sometimes you’re uncomfortable sticking out so much.

11. One Piece Bathing Suits Do Not Work

You always want to try those trendy, cut-out, one piece bathing suits, but they just don’t work on your body. Either your torso is too long so the straps don’t even make it over your shoulders, and your chest is uncovered, or your belly looks squished and lumpy under the fabric.

12. You Sweat A Lot

Exercise is not fun for anyone, especially when the sweating starts. Everyone sweats, but big girls seem to sweat more profusely than other people, and it usually isn’t a cute sweat. It’s a fully soaking, red, puffy faced, dripping hair kind of sweat.

13. You Have To Reach Things Up High

People always ask you to reach things for them, and this makes you feel useful and important. It makes you happy to be big when you can be of assistance. It makes you think, “If big girls weren’t around, who else would help get things off high shelves?”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
