High School is a fun time whether you know it while you're in high school, or realize it when you're looking back at it 20 years after graduating. There are many opportunities and ways to get involved while you're still a high school student and here are a few.

1. Join A Sports Team

Being a student athlete is really fun and one of the most rewarding things you can do. It helps in so many aspects of high school. You get the chance to meet many new people and some who may end up being life long friends. It also helps stay in shape while in high school and get active because after high school, being active might not be easy for everyone so might as well take advantage of the opportunity while you have it.

2. Sign Up For An AP Class

APs are never fun and its hard for me to put this on this list. But AP classes really do pay off because they give you a bigger workload that could get you accustomed to a college workload. The more focused environment is one that is beneficial to any student and can really help anyone out in the long run.

3. Go on as Many College Visits as Possible

OK, so obviously you don't have to visit every school in your state but you definitely want to visit the top three at least, if possible. The summer going into senior year is a critical time in the college application process and every campus is different. I personally fell in love with Alfred State's campus and felt like I was at home when I visited it when compared to other schools. Get a chance to speak to professors, students, etc. You can really get a grasp for the school and what the school's all about.

4. Do Community Service

Community service is a great thing that can really benefit your community and it's a good way to meet people. Whether you help out at a retirement home or simply help put away books at your schools library, anyone should do it.

5. Have Fun

High school only lasts so long, enjoy a nice night with your friends, go do things you've never done before. You have the rest of your life to sit at home at watch Netflix. Go to that party, go out with you friends, just make the most of it and enjoy it.
