Not every student at USC knows who Michal Hoge is, but every brother of USC’s Theta Chi chapter does.
Several brothers have described the rising sophomore as kind, hardworking, and caring. But earlier this summer, Michal was involved in a freak accident after he dove into a pool and fractured his C5 and C7 vertebrae and shattered his C6. After weeks in and out of intensive care, Michal is now registered as a quadriplegic and is rehabilitating his body at a center in Atlanta.
“He’s just one of the most genuine guys I’ve ever met,” said Austin Stevens, a sophomore member of Theta Chi. “He’s definitely a fighter.”
Members of Theta Chi are working together to raise money to help cover Michal’s medical bills and paralysis research. A GoFundMe page was started called Hope4Hoge and has received over $6,000 in donations since its creation on July 29. In addition to the donation website, the brothers are also planning a kickball tournament fundraiser that will take place in September. The event will be open to USC’s fraternities and sororities to participate in.
