The Super Bowl: The First 49 Ranked

How a former obsessed child views it.

Since I was 2, I've been fascinated with football. One of the most interesting aspects is the Super Bowl. I would spend hours reading and watching VHS's. When I was 10 I could name every winner, loser, and MVP from each one. (Naturally this made me quite the hit with the ladies but I digress). With the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl only days away this would be a good time to rank the first 49. Quite frankly the only ranking of the games that matters.

49. V - Baltimore Colts 16, Dallas Cowboys 13

Referred to as the "Blunder Bowl", this game featured 11 turnovers. The only Super Bowl who's MVP played for the losing team.

48. XXIV - San Francisco 49ers 55, Denver Broncos 10

Joe Montana vs. John Elway. Had the makings to be a classic. It wasn't. One look at the score should tell you why it's ranked where it is.

47. XXVII - Dallas Cowboys 52, Buffalo Bills 17

Committing 9 turnovers will usually produce this kind of result. Leon Lett's late game gaffe prevented this from being the biggest blowout in Super Bowl history.

46. XLVIII - Seattle Seahawks 43, Denver Broncos 8

This one was pretty much over before it started.

45. XX - Chicago Bears 46, New England Patriots 10

Arguably the best defense in NFL history showed the entire world what they were capable of.

44. XXII - Washington Redskins 42, Denver Broncos 10

Scoring 35 points in the 2nd quarter, quarterback Doug Williams became the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl, as well as start one for that matter.

43. XVIII - Los Angeles Raiders 38, Washington Redskins 9

Marcus Allen put on a show for the ages against the defending champions.

42. XXXVII - Tampa Bay Buccaneers 48, Oakland Raiders 21

Scoring three defensive touchdowns, the Buccaneers capped one of the greatest defensive seasons in NFL history.

41. XXIX - San Francisco 49er 49, San Diego Chargers 26

Game MVP Steve Young tossed a Super Bowl record 6 touchdown passes.

40. XXXV - Baltimore Ravens 34, New York Giants 7

Kerry Collins vs. Trent Dilfer certainly isn't exactly the sexiest matchup

39. I - Green Bay Packers. 35 Kansas City Chiefs 10

First doesn't mean it's the best

38. II - Green Bay Packers 33, Oakland Raiders 14

The sequel wasn't much better.

37.XXVIII - Dallas Cowboys 30, Buffalo Bills 13

The fourth straight loss for the Bills. Ouch.

36. XI - Oakland Raiders 32, Minnesota Vikings 14

Madden finally gets his ring.

35. XXXIII - Denver Broncos 34, Atlanta Falcons 19

John Elway saves his best for last.

34. VI - Dallas Cowboys 24, Miami Dolphins 3

A future Hall of Famer earns his spot.

33. VIII - Miami Dolphins 24, Minnesota Vikings 7

The second team to repeat.

32. IV - Kansas City Chiefs 23, Minnesota Vikings 7

The AFL proves it can hang.

31. XL - Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Seattle Seahawks 10

An average game partially tainted by questionable officiating.

30. IX - Pittsburgh Steelers 16, Minnesota Vikings 6

A sign of things to come.

29. VII - Miami Dolphins 17, Washington Redskins 7

Capping the only perfect season in NFL history.

28. XIX - San Francisco 49ers 38, Miami Dolphins 16

Montana-Marino. Only one showed up.

27. XXI - New York Giants 39, Denver Broncos 20

Phil Simms going 22-25 doesn't nearly get the recognition it deserves.

26. XII - Dallas Cowboys 27, Denver Broncos 10

25. XV - Oakland Raiders 27, Philadelphia Eagles 10

24. XXVI - Washington Redskins 37, Buffalo Bills 24

The third ring with three different quarterbacks for Joe Gibbs.

23. XVII - Washington Redskins 27, Miami Dolphins 17

The culmination of a strike shortened season.

22. XXX - Dallas Cowboys 27, Pittsburgh Steelers 17

An unlikely hero gets two gifts in this rivalry renewed.

21. XLI - Indianapolis Colts 29, Chicago Bears 17

Rain, rain go away.

20. XXXIX - New England Patriots 24, Philadelphia Eagles 21

The worst display of clock management ever.

19. XIV- Pittsburgh Steelers 31, Los Angeles Rams 19

The team of the 1970's closes out the decade.

18. XLIV - New Orleans Saints 31, Indianapolis Colts 17

New Orleans comes full circle post-Katrina.

17. X - Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Dallas Cowboys 17

Features some of the greatest catches you'll ever see

16. XXXI - Green Bay Packers 35, New England Patriots 31

Brett Favre's only title.

15. XVI - San Francisco 49ers 26, Cincinnati Bengals 21

The start of a decade of dominance.

14. XLV - Green Bay Packers 31, Pittsburgh Steelers 25

A Texas shootout.

13. XLVII - Baltimore Ravens 34, San Francisco 49ers 31

The blackout.

12. XLVI - New York Giants 21, New England Patriots 17

Had Tom Brady completed his last second Hail Mary, this game may very well be number one.

11. XXXIV - St. Louis Rams 23, Tennessee Titans 16

One yard short.

10. III - New York Jets 16, Baltimore Colts 7

The most important Super Bowl.

9. XXXVIII - New England Patriots 32, Carolina Panthers 29

A scoreless first half followed by an explosion.

8. XXXII - Denver Broncos 31, Green Bay Packers 24

Favre-Elway. Enough said.

7. XXV - New York Giants 20, Buffalo Bills 19

Wide f***ing right.

6. XXXVI - New England Patriots 20, St. Louis Rams 17

The kick that launched a dynasty.

5. XIII - Pittsburgh Steelers 35, Dallas Cowboys 31

The two best teams of the 1970's duking it out.

4. XXIII - San Francisco 49ers 20, Cincinnati Bengals 16

Greatest drive in Super Bowl history.

3. XLII - New York Giants 17, New England Patriots 14

The game that thwarted a perfect season.

2. XLIX - New England Patriots 28, Seattle Seahawks 24

Quite possibly the greatest fourth quarter of any Super Bowl ever.

1. XLIII - Pittsburgh Steelers 27, Arizona Cardinals 23

Simply put. This game had it all. Time will tell where Super Bowl 50 will fall.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
