The Struggles Of Someone Who Sucks At Sports

You just can't "sports."

You are far from an athlete and your hand-eye coordination is basically non-existent, so you can't catch, nor can you throw. You are clumsy, slow and comically uncoordinated. Playing any sport is very much a challenge.

1. You tried what seems like every sport.

There was a search for one sport that you were good at, or at least were not absolutely awful at. Every single time, you ended up wishing you were sitting on the side lines, because even if, for some strange reason, someone was foolish enough to dare to hand you the ball, you knew that you were more than likely to disappoint them.

2. You dreaded gym class.

Getting picked last was the norm. The team that got stuck with you usually lost, and if, by some miracle, your team won, having you on the team made it an even bigger accomplishment, because they won, even though you were on their team.

3. People were (and still are) constantly trying to teach you how to play.

You can't throw a football properly or hit a ball with a racket, so most of your life, you have had people with good intentions, and a whole lot of patience, try to explain to you what to do. The same movements repeated, over and over again until frustration wins. But what they will never understand is that even though your brain understands what your body is supposed to do, your body seems to be unable to physically execute those actions.

4. You were never able to be part of a team.

And you might have been quite bitter about it. Everyone and their mother seemed to belong to some team and have this exciting connection with those who play their sport. It was unfair that being bad at something made you feel so left out. After all, you know that you tried your best.

5. It's easy for people to laugh at your very determined attempts.

Watching you play a sport is rather entertaining. The way you try to throw, how you fail to make a very open basket, and even the way you run, it is all funny. And even though you know that you are particularly lacking in the athletic department, it still sucks to have people laugh at you.

Even though you will rarely hit the ball when you try to swing a bat, let alone score the winning goal, you have accepted the fact that you suck at all things sports. But that's fine because you learned to not take yourself too seriously, laugh at yourself, and have fun despite your athletic inabilities when you are forced to play a sport.

And you will always admire the people who make something so difficult look so easy.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
