As newborns, we are dressed in dresses.
At 5 yrs old, we want to wear high heels like mommy and paint our nails like our sisters.
At about 10 yrs olds, we begin shaving our legs.
As teens, we begin to wear makeup and worry about our size.
In our late teens/early twenties, we worry about finding the perfect outfits too "woo” guys at the bar.
My point is, as girls, our whole lives are about striving to be like or better than other girls or getting the attention of guys or having better features or cars or homes.
It's like a completion ALL THE TIME.
Who wore better shoes?
Who looked hotter in that dress?
Who has the best looking body?
Who drives the nicer car?
Who has the bigger home?
Who can flick their eyeliner perfectly on both eyes?
WHY DO WE CONSTANTLY COMPETE?
Simple answer, because we are in a race called life that is FILLED with expectations of not only men, but other women too.
It is actually sickening that we spend half of our time trying to impress or get the attention of other people.
So I'm here to say: IT HAS GOT TO STOP.
We have to stop competing for stares of guys and compliments of peers. We must stop competing for bigger houses or nicer cars. We, as women, must stand up and say enough is enough.
WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT.
WE ARE ALL PERFECT IN GOD'S EYES.
WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL.
WE ARE ALL WORTH IT.
Embrace the fact that your best friend has a different color hair than you. Embrace the fact that you have long luxurious hair or short curly or hair red hair. Just embrace YOUR natural beauty and your REAL personality.
Who cares about everyone else's opinions?
Who really cares if you caught Josh or Justin's eye??
We must strive to live for God, not for the approval of other people.
We are daughters of Christ.
What more could we possibly ask for?
What else in life could be more important than God?
So ask yourself this when you are getting dressed for a night out or fixing your hair to go to school:
Who am I getting all done up for? God? A boy? Myself?
It's okay if you want to wear makeup to school, but don't do it to get a compliment, do it for yourself. It's okay if you want to dress super cute to go out, but don't do it to get attention. Do it for your own self confidence!
Though, you should believe that you are beautiful with no makeup on, in sweat pants, and with your hair tied up!! Yep, that's right!! You think that you look "ratchet as HELL" dressed like that!!
But I say,
"YOU. LOOK. BEAUTIFUL."
So, my message to you (and myself) is to stop competing. EMBRACE your natural Afro (@ my hair), LOVE your big booty, and USE your genius brain and perfect talents that God gave you!!
(ahhhh, Damon...OMG!! But really, don't let people look at you with "judgy eyes" and don't flash those eyes to others.)
Stop trying to be like her. Stop trying to get his attention.
Strive to get the attention of one person, and one person only!! That person is your most Divine Creator, Jesus Christ.
You have hand crafted arms and legs.
You have a perfectly sculpted nose. (Or a perfectly imperfect one like I do, but I shall strive to love it anyways ;))
You have beautiful teeth that radiate God's beauty each time you smile at someone.
You have hair that was touched by the Lord, even though it may look like Medusa's on rainy days!!
The day that you realize that you are to beautiful to compete with another girl or for a guys attention, that will be the day of a life time. That day, you will realize that you must stop striving for the acceptance of others and start striving for the almighty one's acceptance.
You don't need to look like her or have a hot boyfriend like him. You ONLY need to look like you, be yourself, and trust in God's plan.
To my anxious girls,
Your "Mr. right" is coming. I promise. God just isn't ready to place him in your life yet. You can't love him until you love yourself and your so called "flaws."
So for today, strive to love yourself, strive to accept God's plan in your life, strive to trust in the Lord's timing, strive to quit competing, and strive to be yourself.
The right guy will ADORE your imperfections. He will think that you walk on water. You won't have to try and impress the right guy. The right guy will not be interested in how "hot" you are, but rather how perfect your real personality is. So, be yourself and love yourself and don't get sucked into society's expectations.
"If God is for us, who can be against us?"
Romans 8:31God is on your side. You have His approval. You are His daughter. Do not let anyone tell you differently. You are for God. No one shall be against you. No one else's opinion should matter. Do not strive live up to society's dumb expectations. Strive to live up to God's expectations. An eternal life in heaven is better than catching a boys eye with your perfect body anyways!
Be different, be true, & be you!!
