The Schoolgirl Crush Lives On In College

Ladies, we all know the exact recipe of a typical crush. You notice him here and there, you think he's really cute, you find out a little more about him, and you like what you see. So, it begins. We expect the symptoms to change over time as we grow up and mature. We expect to be able to handle it with a more calm and collected mindset unlike our embarrassing attempts through middle school and high school, but it never truly changes. It starts with the butterflies when you see him randomly during the day. At first, they're small. You try starting menial conversations with him every now and then, hoping to find that you had more in common than you ever expected. You also try "spontaneously" running into him between classes. Then, as the feelings progress, so does the intensity in the pit of your stomach. Those tiny butterflies have turned into giant moths, and it's a strenuous task to control those animals. You want to make the first move so that your feelings are validated, but who has the courage for that? And if you're one of the few girls that do, please, on behalf of the rest of us scaredy-cats, go for it! But for those that are simply hanging on by a thread and living on a prayer, it would just be so much easier if you could read minds. You could know exactly how he feels so you could either forget about him or continue waiting for him to act first. You wonder if you've gone too deep into thought over this guy before anything has really happened between the two of you. So, you try to slow it down and rewind a little bit, but it's too late. You're too far gone. You hate that you let yourself go this far, and you try to put all your focus on school, work, and friends, but he just continues to weasel his way back in. You're left to wonder "When will this cycle stop?" If you want to know my opinion, I don't think it ever does. If the exact schoolgirl crush continues to thrive from the cold halls of high school to the already stressful college campus, I don't think there is any hope for us to lay it to rest once and for all. It's the best, most exciting curse we face. So, for all you sophisticated college women out there, beware. The schoolgirl crush lives on in college. No matter how level-headed or "done with guys right now" you might be, you are never immune. Symptoms may include: giddiness, extreme happiness, over thinking, and pre-planning of a nonexistent wedding before the first date.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
