At the end of the day, when you look into mirror after washing off a days worth of makeup, who is looking back at you? Who do you become without the mask of someone else?
We all aspire to be better. As females we strive to become the definition of perfection. We all want flatter waists, longer hair and admirable faces. We all have seen a photograph of ourselves from an unflattering angle and spent too much time thinking about it. We see flaws in ourselves that others may not, and it is our fear of imperfection that scares us. We feed on our own insecurities, and we compete to be the best. We buy overpriced lipstick and we watch makeup hauls, but have we ever stopped to wonder why ?
Companies like Kylie Cosmetics feed on our insecurities, and while they make wonderful products, we buy them because we are afraid of ourselves. The Kardashian's themselves have had a large influence on beauty standards, promoting larger backsides and luscious lips, and while they have been blessed physically many American woman have not. We all have parts that we hate about ourselves. When asked what we would like to change about ourselves, we could go on for hours but if asked to name what we love our thoughts would fall dim in comparison. We all want to be the best and let's be honest, Kylie is killing the game right now. We all, while some may not be willing to admit it, admire her in one way or another.
Kylie Jenner sells millions of products despite having no retail or manufacturing experience. She has promoted her company through social media using her own looks, but I'm sure Kylie herself has the same insecurities. While her "Glo Up" game is strong, she does the same thing we do. She ends her day by wiping off her makeup and asking herself the one question we all do. What would I change if I had the chance?
Pride yourself in your own beauty, buy all the makeup your heart (and wallet) desires but remind yourself that you don't need it. You are made entirely perfect, stitched together by flaws and beauty unlike anyone else. Use your makeup to emphasize the best in you, not to paint over your own skin with someone else's.
Embrace all that God has blessed you with and try not to compare yourself to a different definition of woman. We are made to be strong, we are made to be confident, and we are made to shine regardless of what we look like. We all have talents and people who love us even if our eyeliner wings are uneven. If instagram stars like Kylie can change the game with their own perspective of beauty, who says you couldn't do the same?
