When we look at the setting of a book or the setting of our life, it is the Earth and a specific location within. The Earth has different possessions like trees, different substances, types of materials, etc.. We can change the look of our location; manipulate it to what we want, but it will still be the same Earth.
This example is quite like our mind/mindset. We have one unique setting—our mind. It will always stay the same; however, we can change the “appearance” by adding things to spruce it up or things to make it look dull and vile. This would be known as the outlook or perception we have. Basically, our mindset is how we choose to manipulate the setting by adding different key pieces. Do we choose to add the bright, intricate flower or the dull, plastic piece of greenery? At the end of the day, it is our choice.
The majority of humans go about life never giving their mindset any thought. They leave it to wither away, not being aware of the potential it holds. Awareness is key.
Let me give an example of something that every person experiences: stress.
We all have been stressed whether the stress comes on because of a loss of a job, a family member, or even the loss of money. Each person views stress in two ways: beneficial or non-beneficial. The truth is, stress is one idea, but the way we choose to view it impacts how much stress we have.
So, if I paint the setting for stress in my mind with dull colors on the wall and dry grass with a sign that says “Beware: stress ahead” then we will impact how much stress will come into our lives. By viewing stress as non-beneficial, we are setting ourselves up for more harm than not. It won't be the stress that impacts; it will be the outlook that we created that will cause mental and physical harm to the body. If we come to the acceptance that stress is inevitable and can be good for us, then we will more than likely harbor a healthy amount of stress.
A prime example of the mindset that we choose to have is “Are you a glass half full person or a glass half empty person?”
What we choose to not see is that it is just a glass filled with liquid. Our mindset is what adds to the setting.
Have you ever thought about this? We choose to hold on to the negative rather than the positive. It is as simple as choosing to see the positive. It has been proven/tested that people who are given negative information first and then positive information after still dwell on the negative. When we are presented positive ideas, we are more motivated and alive, but when one negative idea pops up on our radar, our whole self goes into the negative. The truth is, the positive is far greater than that one negative idea.
I am not downplaying our heartaches and trials; however, our mind is far greater than we let on. How we view our world, ourselves, and the people in it can be changed by just pushing the switch button on our perception. Having a positive and thriving mindset is equal to getting daily exercise, eating healthy, and getting the right of amount of sleep. Our body is a phenomenal and complex system. If we are doing everything positive for the rest of our body but not changing our mindset, it won’t function to its highest potential.
Your mind is beautiful and unique. It is the most intricate and dimensional part of you. Why not change the perception to see your beauty, the beauty of the world and all that is has to offer?
Open your mind to the possibility of positivity, add positive and creative ideas to the setting, and see the full potential of your mind.
