In my first semester of college, I found that my favorite part of every day is stopping to take in nature.
Specifically, in the beautiful season of autumn, there are so many different things to appreciate other than apple cider and donuts (although, those are pretty cool, too).
Living on a campus surrounded by nature trails and wildlife gives me a sense of peace that I know I couldn't get anywhere else. Some have study breaks that consist of snacks and binge-watching a tv series; my study breaks are a time for me to sit by a river and take in all of God's creation.
Had I been anywhere else, I probably would have gone crazy by now, and here's why.
Being near wildlife all the time has allowed me to appreciate different parts of nature I normally wouldn't notice. From the way the wind smells in the month of September to the crisp, colorful leaves falling all around. The hustle and bustle of city life gets pretty old after a while, and so does all the anxiety that comes with it.
In addition to the natural beauty, the location of my campus provides so many opportunities for unique, fun events. Every so often, a social club might host a campout by the lake, a mere five-minute walk from the dorm buildings. On the weekends, organized charity events take place, and many people across the community show up to run a 5K. Even something as simple as hiking through the thick woods can bring together old friends or an entire community.
In short, I wouldn't want to be studying anywhere else in the world. The peacefulness and positivity of the world around us has benefitted so many students attending Rochester College, especially myself.
