The Perks of Being a Book Nerd

The Perks of Being a Book Nerd

There are only two types of people in the world: those who read, and monsters.

Ok, just kidding (sort of...).

It is my experience that those who do read can't fathom why others wouldn't, and those who don't read can't fathom why others would.

So for those who fall in the non-reading category, here is a list of just a few perks to being on our side (because we seriously can't fathom why you wouldn't join in!):

We have witty, literary comebacks for every situation.

We have an emotional relationship with every book on our shelves (and tables, and desks, and floors...).

There are a million different ways to define ourselves...

... which helps, because reading constantly challenges our identity...

... and forces us to examine life from different perspectives, ultimately making us well-rounded people.

We never lack accessories, ...

... epic halloween costumes, ...

... party themes, ...

... or jokes.

We can show you everything wrong with movie adaptations...

... and easily identify the hidden subtext of stories and poems.

We regularly defy the laws of nature.

Our pockets are full of wisdom...

... and empty of cash.

But there's nothing like that moment when we connect with a character...

... or with a community of fellow readers...

... and we are reminded that we are never alone.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
