12 months of the year, and which is the best? Everyone has their favorites, and every month has its pros and cons. Maybe you're unable to decide which month is your favorite, maybe you already know, or maybe you want to just take time to appreciate each one! No matter the case, there is always a chance to enjoy each month of the year.
1. January/enero/janvier
January is special because it marks the start of a new year. Many people try to stick to their New Year's Resolutions and spend time relaxing after the holidays. New Year's Day, Three Kings Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day are also in this month, which is special because many people have time off from work and school. However, many people fall into the winter blues in this month after all the fun from the holidays.
2. February/febrero/février
February is the year's shortest month, but that doesn't make it any less important. This month is famous for Valentine's Day and the start and expression of many romantic relationships. February typically is a cold month and by this point in the winter, people begin to itch for summer even more. Every four years, February gains an extra day on the leap year, making it extra unique. This month also includes many favorites such as Super Bowl Sunday, Groundhog Day and President's Day weekend.
3. March/marzo/mars
March is a great month, though I'm biased here because it's my birth month. A lot normally occurs in March, such as the beginning of spring, Saint Patrick's Day and sometimes, even Easter. One of the longest months of the year, March is important because it can be really cold or warm depending on the weather. For instance, when I was born, it snowed, and my birthday is at the tail end of March. However, it can also be warm, such as this past year. I was wearing shorts already by my birthday.
4. April/abril/avril
April is a very pretty month, and for many people it marks the excitement of spring becoming evident. This month includes holidays such as Earth Day and sometimes Easter, as well as Passover, Arbor Day and my favorite, April Fool's Day. This month does have some negatives, such as Tax Day and the large amount of rain, but overall is a beautiful month to enjoy the weather.
5. May/mayo/mai
May is honestly such a gorgeous month -- as the saying goes, "May flowers!" May is a longer month of the year and is filled with many celebrations such as cinco de mayo, Memorial Day, Mother's Day and Armed Forces Day. Also, this month has two of the famous "Star Wars" Days, May the Fourth and Revenge of the Sixth. This month marks the start of summer for many and typically includes a lot of beautiful scenery.
6. June/junio/juin
June, the middle of the year, has many opportunities for celebration, such as the start of summer, Father's Day, school letting out for many, Ramadan and Flag Day. June is a time for relaxation and rehabilitation after a long winter or a long year of working! Sometimes it can be pretty hot, which is the only downside.
7. July/julio/julliet
July is another gem of the year -- it can be very warm, but also beautiful. July is a long month, and for many it includes summer vacation or trips to a pool. There are not many holidays in July, but the Fourth of July and Canada Day make a great deal of happiness.
8. August/agosto/août
August is the time for relaxation as summer begins to wind down. August can be very hot or mild depending upon the year. With no holidays, August can be a bit of a drag for many, but it can also include summer festivities such as the Olympics or vacations, and back to school for many college students.
9. September/septiembre/septembre
September marks back to school for many students across the country, as well as the beginning of fall. September includes mild or warm weather and is nice because one can wear a jacket but also enjoy the sun setting still. Holidays such as Labor Day and Grandparents Day are vital holidays in September.
10. October/octubre/octobre
October is when the weather typically transitions into fall weather and the summer season truly fades. October has holidays including Columbus Day, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Halloween and Rosh Hashanah. The holidays seem to carry on and create excitement.
11. November/noviembre/novembre
November is a typical autumn month that marks true beauty in the leaves and trees. November includes many family and friend gatherings, such as Thanksgiving, Day of the Dead and All Saint's Day, Veteran's Day, Black Friday and this year, election day! This month also brings us closer to the extravagant holidays in December, and includes much shopping and prepping.
12. December/diciembre/décembre
December is a magical month -- from the start of the winter season to the holidays such as Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day and New Year's Eve, the celebrations truly seem to never end. This month is typically cold, but also exciting because it can include the first snow and first winter activities.
No matter which month is your favorite, they are all special in their own way and truly make the year fun.
