In 1789, James Madison and company completed and published the Constitution that we the people of America live by. In 1789, the third article has and still grants the power to the Judicial system that penalizes, sentences, and grants punishment (or lack thereof) to people who are in violation of the Constitution as well as Laws of the United States of America. These articles were not taken lightly, and where debated amongst the top scholars and war heroes of our time to develop a system that will work. The judicial system of our government is so important that it is separate from congress, and it is separate from the President. With the exception of checks and balances, the President has no control over the courts system. In my opinion, that's a beautiful thought out process that came about over 200 years ago.
So I ask one question. Why do we abuse a system that is carefully thought out to prevent abuse? Brock Turner is a disgusting stain in the unwritten bias code that court systems use. Brock is not alone. Brock stands amongst many privileged upper class citizens who commit gut wrenching crimes, and walk away with near next to nothing at all. This boy, and he clearly is still just a boy, has played the system and abused his class standing to leave a woman absent of her justice. A woman who was so strong she faced her assailant and read the most amazing words that justify that she is a human. A human with rights that were violated.
It is loathsome that she had to battle for over a year to seek any type of justice at all. She faced a boy that wouldn't even come to admit his wrong. A child that excuses his behavior to alcohol. After this long gruesome battle the jury of our peers reached a verdict determining him to guilty on all three accounts he was in trial for. Leaving the fate of Brock Turner in the hands of a Judge. This Judge, Aaron Persky, was a graduate from Stanford with a history of 13 years being strict on sexual violence. Apparently his 13 years of "keeping the most dangerous sex offenders in the custody of mental hospitals" came to an end June 2nd when Brock Turner was sentenced to six months in jail.
The case just continues to get worse, with news coming out that this little boy is receiving a protective detail while behind bars. Also, his release date was made public, being September 2nd, 2016. Three months short of a six month sentence.
It looks like to me that once again a white upper class privileged student won the system. Meanwhile, a broken and beaten woman stands strong to send a message.
If we cannot rely on our judicial system to take action against people who violate the laws and other human rights then we need to stand up and stop this. It is time for America to truly put a stop to segregation. It is time to stop seeing people for their gender or color. It is time for a Judge to be removed from his position if he shows biases in his convictions.
It is time justice stops having a grey line, and serves us properly.
We can put an end to this, we can unite and stand strong to our beliefs. Advocate for the right people, vote for the ones that will lead us in the right direction. Aid and accompany people who stand up against what is wrong. Most important stop provoking and promoting the inequality that seems to flood our culture.
