Coming off the "Philly Sports Villains" article, I wanted to write to you about the lighter side of sports. So sit back and enjoy the funnier side of the sports world. We're all in for a good laugh at some points in our lives. So why not now? Here's a collection of the funny sports personalities of the past and present. Hope you're all ready for a good laugh!
Cris Carter
A former NFL wide receiver for the Eagles and Vikings now a broadcaster on ESPN, Carter is the guy who can get a laugh from the rest of the "ESPN NFL Countdown" guys. If you feel like you're having a bad day, just watch this little clip from their famous, "C'mon Man!"
John Kruk
Ah, the Kruker. John Kruk was one of the many colorful personalities of that magical 1993 Phillies team. Technically the entire 1993 team could be on this list with players such as Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams, Lenny "Nails" Dykstra, Dave Hollins, Danny Jackson, Darren Daulton, or Mickey Morandini, but Kruk is the one that stands out. He was a regular on the "Late Show with David Letterman" and always joked about his team and his physique, once saying, "Didn't a fat guy play baseball really well? Babe something?" Just like Carter, he also is on ESPN for baseball commentary, whether its for games or in the studio, Kruk brings the experience and the humor everywhere he goes.
Ryan DempsterDempster, a former pitcher for the Cubs as well as a handful of other teams, will always be remembered for his impression of Cubs legendary announcer Harry Caray, who I also share a birthday with.
Shaquille O'Neal
A key asset to any team he played for, Shaq knew how to use his words to get a laugh from the fans. He could even make opposing teams and their fans laugh.
Jeremy Roenick
Roenick, a former forward for the Flyers, was the class clown in the locker room. His antics ranged from dancing on the ice, singing songs that played over the PA system, or even kissing teammates on the Kiss Cam. Arguably one of the best American ice hockey players, Roenick could score goals and make his teammates boost up their spirits when they were struggling.
Brett Phillips
No words, just watch.
Larry Andersen
You can always hear this former Phillies pitcher on 94WIP for Phillies games as a radio color commentator, making it difficult for play-by-play man Scott Franzkie to keep it together. He was also known for having a close relationship with the late, great Harry Kalas, since they both worked on the radio for Phillies games. A class act to have in any clubhouse and was even on a list as one of MLB's funniest personalities of all time.
If you laughed at the videos or any of the athletes I mentioned, I'm glad you did. I always want to make people laugh whenever they feel down; I try to help the people I care about as much I can do and I hope this article gave y'all a laugh. Keep on reading and laughing!
