The Gym And Its Patrons

We're all here for the same reason, but with different styles.

For the most part, we all like to think of ourselves as healthy people living healthy lifestyles. If not, we at least make an attempt to living this healthy lifestyle. What comes with that are visits to the gym. A place where all different people go to pursue this goal of physical fitness. When going about your daily workout you will find these people in your local gym.

The One Elderly Person

The elderly person comes in two forms. Either terrifyingly strong and in great physical shape or just there to make sure the old ticker is working well. The strong ones are not people you want to mess with. They’ve made it this far in life and are still bigger than most people. Either way, God bless them for being in here at this age. Respect for your elders, especially if they are stronger than you.

The American Ninja Warriors

These people are fit, plain and simple. They do it all. They climb ropes and walls, lift weights and are somewhat acrobatic. You find them doing exercises that you wouldn’t dare attempt because you will probably look like an idiot. These people make even the most strenuous exercises look like a walk in the park.

The Dinosaurs

The dinosaurs are the people you walk by in the gym and think why is this person even here still. Like they’re done. These people are walking giants and are dedicated to being the biggest people in the gym. I just assume that as they walk around they have the "Jurassic Park" theme song playing in their headphones on repeat.

The Growlers

These patrons can come in any shape or size. The only distinct trait about them is they growl when they lift weights. It hypes them up.

The Selfie-Takers

They didn't come to the gym unless they took a selfie.

The Cardio Fiends

You ever walk into the gym and see someone on the treadmill and they look like they’ve already run two miles? Then you stay in the gym for about 45 minutes to an hour and as you’re walking out you see that same person on the treadmill and they aren’t even breathing heavy. These human beings are part gazelle and they are always trying to get that runner’s high.

The Fighters

Between sets, you will see this person get in a fighter’s stance and start shadow boxing. Mostly to let everyone around them know that they will kick your ass.

The Greeks

Just your average Greek life participant. You know who they are from the letters on their shirts.

The Gym Mentors

These people are usually in great physical condition. The difference between them and everyone else is they never really like to mind their own business. If they spot you doing something wrong, they will come up and tell you. It’s harmless, though. They just want to teach people how to “gym properly.” Even if you don’t want their tutoring they will give it to you.

The Average Person

This doesn’t mean that you look physically average in any way. It just means that you are here to be healthy, but outside of the gym you aren’t afraid of the occasional pizza outing nor do you shy away from a beer because of the excessive calories.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
