To the girl who made the decision to move on,
Congratulations, I know right now it doesn’t feel like a celebratory time in your life but I promise it is. I know the pain in your heart is so real and I just want you to know I am so proud of you. I am proud of you for so many reasons. To be told over and over by other people whether friends, best friends, or family that you can do better and deserve so much more from someone is one thing but to finally acknowledge it for yourself is a whole other concept in itself.
One of the hardest things about moving on from a relationship is the idea of never being with that person again.
This is a person you have a history with, someone you have shared big and little things with, someone you once trusted and now you are saying goodbye. You are saying goodbye to new memories filled with laughter, joy, and love. But you are also saying goodbye to the pain, the tears, and the sadness. You have made the decision to move forward with your life without that person dragging you backward.
You are free.
Free from the roller coaster of emotions that came with this relationship. You are free from wondering every day whether or not he is fully committed to the relationship. You are free from the feeling of not being good enough. You are free from the hold he had on your heart. I want you to realize just because you once loved this boy and possibly still do he is not the love of your life.
He was simply a love in your life.
One of those relationships that help build you and shape you into to the woman you are meant to be. It could have been a type of love you felt deeply, but that doesn’t mean he was the one.
The man God created for you will love you for you. He will not keep you guessing day after day. He won’t simply say he loves you, he will show it through his actions. He won’t make you feel like a second choice to another girl or the single life, he will make it known you are what he wants. Sure, he will mess up but so does everyone. Love is messy but love is also beautiful, pure, and worth it.
So, my friend, you made the decision to move on from the boy who had hold of you. This is a brave and beautiful adventure you are now embarking on. The person you are moving on from never deserved you in the first place if he didn’t realize what he had when he had it. Be strong and courageous.
Don’t let just anyone have your heart.
You are worth so much more than you have given yourself credit for. When you fully comprehend your worth, love will come. Be patient and don’t ever let anything or anyone take your spark away. My mom has always had the perfect words in response to any relationship struggles, “It only takes one.”
