Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo broke a bone in his back on just the third play of Thursday's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. This is Romo's fourth back injury in less than four years. This begs the question, have we seen the last of Tony Romo?
Tony Romo doesn't seem to think so. Romo told Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett during the game that he would be OK to return, but rookie Dak Prescott was put into the game at quarterback instead. However, Coach Garrett is optimistic that Tony Romo could still get the starting role for the season opener against the New York Giants. Romo himself said that he has no intention to retire despite his latest setback. The experts have been estimating that Romo will be out six to ten weeks, but Garrett hasn't confirmed that Dak Prescott will be starting on September 11th.
The fate of the Cowboys without Tony Romo seems to be in good hands, from what it looks like so far at least. In just a few preseason games, Dak Prescott has thrown five touchdown passes and ran for two touchdowns, with zero interceptions. With rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott and the stellar offensive line, Prescott should have no trouble with the Cowboys reliance on the run game. Nonetheless, Prescott still has to face first-string defenses, not preseason defenses. We're all eager to see if Prescott can keep up his preseason numbers or if they're just that: preseason numbers. Yet, I think all fans can agree that anyone is better than Kellen Moore.
Cowboys fans have shown mixed opinions when it comes to the recent injury of Tony Romo. Some support him and believe that he could still make a miraculous comeback despite his injury-plagued career. Others believe that he should hang up the cleats and allow the Cowboys to move on. Some have sworn off the season, already claiming another 4-12 or 8-8 finish. Others remain optimistic that Dak Prescott can carry the Cowboys to a winning season. No matter if you're Team Tony or Team Dak, this season will be interesting to watch. So buckle up Cowboys fans, we're in for another wild ride.
