The Average College Life As Told By Stephen Colbert

"All I can do is today and tomorrow and have some idea of what we're doing next week. That's all I can worry about."

I start most of my mornings off like any college student. Knowing full well that I have a class at 10:20 AM, I set my alarm for 9:00 AM and when it eventually wakes me out of a dead sleep, I proceed to hit the snooze button until roughly 9:20 AM. This past week was particularly rough because I had two exams, one huge project, multiple study abroad meetings and (of course) countless assignments and club meetings to attend to. But, no matter how exhausted I was every morning, I still found a way to stumble out of bed and get my day started. However, none of this would have been possible without the videos of one, Mr. Stephen Colbert, so I decided to describe my weekly activities with a bit of help from my favorite political talk show host.

1. Sliding out of bed.

Behold; actual footage of me flopping out of my cozy fortress of solitude and stuffed animals into the dark and cold world of exams and stress. It is not an easy daily task, but I alone can accomplish it (given that I have to be somewhere in 20 minutes).

2. Making myself look decent.

Though it's actually nowhere near as flawless as Stephen makes it out to be. I wish my hair looked that good on a regular basis!

3. Preparing to leave the apartment.

And attempting to shove some nutrients into my face before my first class. (I know he's eating Oreos, but that's gotta be better than eating nothing, right?)

4. Making the trek to campus.

Allow me to clarify, when the weather is nice, I actually enjoy the walk from my apartment to campus. When the weather decides to be gloomy and rain on my parade and smack me in the face with wind chills, however, I jam my earbuds in my ears and hope that I don't collapse from the weight of my backpack. I also usually take this time to pray that I don't get hit by a car whilst crossing the street.

5. Arriving to class.

And frantically trying to remember what the homework was. I'm sure that I did it, if only I could find it...

6. Being assigned a group project.

Of course my professor has already assigned groups, so I awkwardly make an attempt at introducing myself to my new group members. (One point I will vouch for though, so far in all of my classes I've been able to count on all of my group project members so that's a potentially stressful situation off my mind.)

7. Heading to my work study.

Even though it's still work, I truly believe that I have one of the best work study jobs at my school in University Relations. When there are no errands to be run, files to be organized, or interviews to be transcribed, I have some time to finish up some homework (or write Odyssey articles...).

8. Stopping by the apartment for a bit.

I have just enough time to grab something to eat and watch a few episodes of "Yu-Gi-Oh!"

9. Recharging with a bit of caffeine.

(Okay, maybe a little more than just "a bit"...)

10. Heading back up to campus.

Sometimes I'll steal a ride from a friend, but most days I'm reminded how blessed I must be to have not been hit by a car after two years at this school (and there have been some close calls!)

11. Attending club meetings.

Seeing as this is the only non-class social interaction I've had all day, I typically enjoy getting to spend some time with other club members.

12. Finally retreating back to the apartment for the night.

This might not be until around 9 or 10 PM, but the important thing is I made it back in one piece (more or less).

13. Getting some last-minute studying done.

(Sorry for the profanity, but I wanted to keep this as truthful as possible.)

14. Preparing for a much-needed night of sleep.

This involves showering and trying not to let my mind wander into the realms of anxiety that threaten to keep me awake.

15. Snuggling into my blankets and cuddling my stuffed animals.

Back in my fortress of solitude, ready to rest up for the night.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
