We forget about the thousands of dollars they’ve spent making sure we have the best training or the best gear. We forget about the thousands of hours they’ve wasted sitting and watching our practices, or spent driving us around to games and tournaments. And all too often, we forget to say thanks. Not only do we forget to thank them for their time and money, but we hardly ever thank them for supporting us, or for believing in us. Our parents are the ones that pick us up when we have a rough game. They’re our number one fans. They have always and will always push us to our limits, because they know we can take it; they wouldn’t let us quit because they knew that’s not what we really wanted. Our parents have been there from the beginning. They have sat through every game, no matter how boring it was. They didn’t care if you were playing or not, they were still there, supporting you. We might say a certain coach or team made us the player we are today, but that’s not true at all. Our parents are responsible for that. And they rarely get a thank you for that. But guess what? They don’t care. Their reward for all those years devoted to our sport is seeing us happy. Seeing us succeed in something, and watching us as we move further in our game and becoming not only better athletes but better people as well. They love hearing about how happy our sport makes us and seeing us be passionate about something, seeing us fall in love with something. That’s what makes it worth it for them. They don’t need a thank you, but they definitely do deserve one. So here’s a thank you, to every athlete’s parents. Thank you for loving our sport just as much as we do.
