Hillary,
I was hoping to write this letter eight years from now and under different circumstances but as you know, things don't always go as they should.
Yesterday, we watched as the presidency was conceded.
Do not mistake our frustration for disappointment in you. We have watched you navigate the political arena (often on your own) and forge new paths for women and children everywhere. Your innovation and commitment to the world has inspired a generation to become not only better public servants but better people who understand that it takes a village to succeed and that no one regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, age or disability should be left behind.
You are right, we do need more kindness and it is because of you and your legacy that we recognize our ability to see each other as more than Democrats or Republicans, Men or Women, Black or White and Straight or LGBT. We have placed a trust in you so great that it sometimes seems like a burden and in all of the hard choices you’ve made on our behalf, we have not been let down. Your sharp mind, eloquent manner and compassionate character are attributes unparalleled by any man that has chosen to doubt the integrity, faith or pride that you have for this country.
Going forward, we will struggle to find our way but it is because of you that we know there is a way to be found. Our spirits will be low but we will carry on, just as you’ve showed us how to do. Time and a forgiving heart can heal all wounds and a commitment to the betterment of society can rebuild any burned bridge.
Please, bare no regrets. You have dedicated your life to ensuring that we all have the tools necessary build any life that we choose for ourselves and to making sure that we have the ability to pass those tools to our children. This is a contribution that is so very valued.
Because of you we know that human rights can no longer be considered optional. That each man and woman must be held responsible for their own success or shortcomings. That even when faced with disadvantage, perseverance and working toward a greater cause will bring hard earned and prosperous success. We are not giving up.
From every single one of us:
Thank you for showing us that behind every pantsuit, there is infinite power.
Thank you for your dedication.
Thank you for your support.
Thank you for your time.
Thank for your heroism.
Thank you for your leadership.
Thank you for your faith.
Thank you for your service.
Thank you, Secretary Clinton.
