Dear unexpected,

Although I know I’m young, my entire life I’ve been nothing but used, abused and mistreated by ‘boys’ I thought I needed in order to be happy. I never knew what it felt like to be in a state of happiness that I didn’t even know existed. With the way the world is today, relationships seem to be a lost cause most of the time, and I thought it was time for me to give up on finding the man of my dreams. I was always told "good things come to those who wait."

So one day I came to promise myself that I would never try to meet a good guy again and I would be happy satisfying my own dreams, fulfilling my own successes and living my life with lenses linked down to only my own footsteps - and then you came along. Out of nowhere you came into my life, and not only showed me that I deserved the world, but gave it to me all at the same time and never looked back. I don’t just mean materialistically, I mean mentally, and gave me something that awakened a part of my soul that has been asleep a very long time. So, thank you for caring for me in a way I never knew possible.

Thank you for showing me that no matter what, I deserve the best, and that all these mistakes in the past led me to you. No matter where this world takes us, thank you for proving to me that I am way better than being put on the back burner, I am way more important that a cheap date and a text message, thank you for showing me that I don’t need to lose weight to be beautiful, thank you for being so selfless and always putting my needs before yours, thank you for introducing me to your loving family who has taken me in as their own, thank you for making me laugh; and not just a giggle but a deep, genuine, one of a kind laugh, thank you for being goofy and showing me the bright side of life.

Thank you for reassuring me when my doubts get in the way, thanks for listening to me hound you about driving fast and saying cuss words, thank you for letting me be exactly who I am and doing nothing but enhancing me and who I am.

Thank you for never standing in front of me or behind me, but only beside me. Thank you for supporting me in doing what I love, thank you for taking me places I have never been, thank you for never making me feel inferior or low about myself and never putting me down. I never knew someone like you existed, and I surely never knew what it was like to be treated how I deserve to be treated. I’m not sure I even knew I deserved it at all. Ever since I have fallen for you, I will never forget this feeling. I will never forget feeling like I have it all when you’re by my side, I will never forget feeling beautiful without a trace of makeup on, I will never forget feeling so protected and taken care of, I will never forget feeling like I’m the most precious woman on the planet.

Thank you for never making me doubt how much you care about me, thank you for backing up your word and always doing what you say you’re going to do, thanks for all the meals you’ve bought me and the places you’ve driven me. Also, thanks for listening to all my frantic phone calls when something goes wrong or someone makes me mad, and listening and doing whatever you can to help me, no matter how petty the problem is.

I’m serious when I say I have never felt this way before, and I honestly lost all hope in good guys until you came along. It’s so refreshing to see that selfless, generous, loving men do still exist. There isn’t a thing you could do to make me feel any less about you than I do right now; because you have completely changed my perspective on not only relationships, but who I am and what I deserve, forever.

Thank you for listening to me sing too loud, letting me win every arm wrestle and rubbing my back even when you don’t want to.

But most of all, thank you for making me realize that I will never in my life return to the state of being mistreated, I will never let any boy step all over me or make me feel small ever again. After all, life is way too short to be mistreated by someone who just does not matter, or anyone at all.

You have proven to me that I am good enough to be treated like I deserve, you have shown me that I am worth it all, and you have shown me that good guys do still exist. I promise to always be by your side, I promise to always encourage you, I promise to always support you, I promise to always appreciate you, I promise to always say thank you, and I promise to give you all of me because for once, someone truly deserves all that I have to offer.

Whether we stay together forever, or you change your mind tomorrow, forgetting you would be like trying to remember someone I never met - impossible.
