Everyone has that one friend that they've known forever, or at least I hope everyone does. I have known my best friend, Brielle, since the first grade—we were neighbors. My family was throwing out a kids table when a little ball of white fluff came running at us from across the street with a little girl following behind it. My mom caught the dog and talked to the little girl, learning that her name was Brielle and she was a year older than me, and she invited her over while her parents were still painting their house and unpacking to play with me. I ended up biting Brielle that day (I was a weird and lonely child), but she still came over a couple days later and we have been best friends ever since. I don’t know what I would do without her honestly; she is the Christina Yang to my Meredith Grey, the Angela to my Temperance, the Derrick Morgan to my Penelope Garcia. She is my person.
Brielle and I have been there for each other through everything, I can only remember one time when I thought we weren't going to be friends anymore and then she came over and slapped some sense into my hormonal teenage self. Even when I had no friends, Brielle was still my friend. I wouldn't have been able to get through high school without her; she was/is my rock. I wouldn't be who I am if I hadn't had her by my side my entire life. We aren't just best friends, we’re family.
I sometimes feel closer to Brielle than I do to my own family; we just have that connection where we know what the other is thinking. We are those friends who will just walk inside each other’s houses without telling the other that they were coming. We have been practically inseparable since the day that first day. I have been known to get jealous whenever she says that someone else is her best friend, but as we've grown older, I've come to realize that it is my name she tells people when they ask about her best friend, no one else’s. I couldn't have chosen a better friend, and I wouldn't want to choose anyone else to be my best friendBrielle inspires me to do better, she was always in gifted classes in elementary and middle school, and then practically all AP and AICE in high school. Not to mention that she got accepted into the equine vet program at that high school. She was able to get amazing grades in all of those classes, be a dedicated chorus member and an amazing equestrian/horse owner all at the same time. She is literally the best multi-tasker I've ever met, as well as the most injury prone person I've ever met. She has probably broken over 11 bones in the time that we have been friends, but that does mean that if I ever get injured I can just walk across the street to get whatever supplies I might need.
The day Brielle left for college I cried like a baby, my best friend was moving over 10 hours away and into a different time zone, I was about to start my senior year without her. However, whenever we talk it’s like no time has passed, we still talk at least once every other week (she’s very busy with classes and being on the IHSA riding team at Auburn). I know that whenever something major happens I can still call her or she can still call me, and that no matter how far we are from each other in distance, our friendship will never change.
