Since bid day has come and gone campus is littered with new members from every chapter proudly sporting their new letters and proclaiming how happy they are that they’ve found their new home. Many of the active members identify these girls as one thing: Future Littles. As coffee dates and shopping trips abound, I thought I’d share a little about how I came to find my adorable two littles that I am proud to call my own.
Early last fall semester I heard the news that we were going to be having informal recruitment. Before I could say, “Woohoo new members!” we had a new pledge class of eleven amazing girls. I was ridiculously excited and couldn’t wait to meet them all and potentially find a little.
One afternoon after class I got Starbucks with one of our newest members. We met over mochas and quickly bonded over a love of running and fun patterned leggings. Before I knew it an hour had passed and I was sure that I had just started a friendship that would last.
Later that week I grabbed lunch with another new member at Panera. I quickly discovered that she is one of the sweetest girls I have ever met in my life. We headed over to the new Halloween store across the street. Though we didn’t find anything for our Hawaiian-themed social, we walked through aisles and aisles of ridiculous costumes and masks laughing and joking all the way.
Through socials and sisterhoods that passed I realized that I had met two genuine and fantastic soon-to-be sisters who always kept me smiling and laughing. As big little picks came around I reached a conundrum. How could I pick just one? I put both names down and left the rest in the hands of our new member educator.
The morning I found out I got twins I was ecstatic. I frantically texted my big to tell her the good news and began buying little gifts and things to put glitter on as soon as possible. It was a little tricky to snag cute pictures with both at our date party without giving everything away. I am nowhere near having the skills of a detective or spy, but I think I was able to keep one guessing for a while.
Big Little week came and I was finally able to share the joy I was keeping inside with the two newest members of my family. After a big little reveal that featured Despicable Me minion socks and plenty of cake I couldn’t be happier with my two perfect littles.
I couldn’t be more proud of my littles and can’t to see them continue to grow as beautiful and intelligent members of my sorority. I promise to always be there for them and will try to be as amazing a big as mine is to me. With our new pledge class they may be able to soon experience what it is like to have a fantastic little that inspires them.
