As someone who has lived in New England my whole life, and dealt with the cold and below freezing winters, I have a pretty good idea on how to deal with them. Although sometimes my way of dealing with them means curling up and hibernating for a few hours, there are better techniques than that.
1. Buy cute clothes
Maybe it's totally superficial- but whatever, it's true that if you look good, you feel good, and if you want some new clothes for a new season, then treat yo' self.
2. Try not to stay in bed all day
If you sleep until noon and then wonder why you feel groggy the rest of the day, it's because you slept until noon. Get up, move around, get some exercise, and you'll feel good.
3. Take long, hot showers
Along with keeping yourself energized, keeping yourself clean and feeling refreshed is a good way to make yourself happier during the day.
4. Make plans for yourself
By making plans for yourself, you're putting yourself as a priority and keeping yourself happy.
5. Don't procrastinate
Don't put things off, just get them done right then and there. If you get your work done on time, you'll have time to do things you actually enjoy.
6. Don't cancel plans
And don't cancel those plans you just made. Yeah, maybe you're tired, but you won't be if you're out laughing with your friends.
7. Keep up with work
Don't let things get pushed to the last second. You'll feel better being productive and on time with everything.
8. Talk to friends
Talk to your friends a lot, even those that are far away. It will make you feel connected and loved, which can be hard if you're alone.
9. Don't watch too much Netflix
Making yourself stay up too late or put off other things for a show is only going to make it harder to get up and stay active the next day. Don't be a Netflix zombie!
10. Don't drink too much
Alcohol is a depressant, and it can only make any issues you have worse, so don't drink if you're already a little down.
11. Think happy thoughts
Keeping it positive, happy and upbeat will make it so you won't be able to come down off your good mood. Remember, it's okay to feel down sometimes, as long as you keep it positive.
