The Super Bowl is the one day of the year when people actually pay attention to the ads, and that's because they're usually pretty great. As a wannabe marketer, the whole concept thrills me. Consequently, I love Super Bowl ads. Here are some of my favorites:
11) Isn't turning off the faucet while you brush your teeth something you learn in like kindergarten? Seriously, people, listen to this ad.
10) Who doesn't want to see a nerdy Prius driver singing badass music while driving around town?
9) My dad loved this, so that's a plus, right? Also, just think how long it would take to actually make a portrait of somebody out of Skittles (and who wants to make mine?).
8) Imagine T.J. Miller insulting and being insulted by a fake orange on a beer tap. Yep, that's the entire ad. It's great.
7) This ad combines Amy Schumer's humor with a super applicable topic (think 2016 elections), so what's not to love? Besides, Bud Light took a previously badly thought out campaign from a few years ago (they ran the slogan "Remove 'no' from your vocabulary") and completely turned it around, so good for them!
6) LOOK AT THE PUPPIES. Just look at them. They're wearing HOT DOG SUITS. Enough said.
5) I'm not totally sure why I found this "Walken Closet" ad so amazing, but Christopher Walken definitely had something to do with it. Who wants to be a beige sock? (As an aside, this ad gets extra props from me because car commercials in general are pretty blah.)
4) T Mobile always has some great ads, but they really brought it up a notch with this Drake ad. Seriously, just watch it.
3) Doritos killed it this year with all of their ads. All three of these made me laugh out loud as I watched them.
2) In this Budweiser ad, Helen Mirren gives a very blunt view on drunk driving, all part of Budweiser's ongoing effort to eliminate drunk driving in the US. The company has run similar ads in the past, but this is one of my favorites because she does not hold back.
1) I've already written an entire article about this (coming soon to a screen near you!), but my all-time favorite ad of the night was a local commercial run by Art Van, a Michigan-based company.
In the commercial, Art Van draws attention to the Flint water crisis and thanks everyone who has already donated bottled drinking water to the city. They even cancelled the actual commercial they were originally planning to run in order to put this on. It's not necessarily the best commercial, but it's definitely something that deserves all the recommendations I can give it. Can you tell I like commercials with a social conscience?
