At this time of the school year the mind starts to drift off during class to daydream about the summer that lies ahead. Your detail orientated planner is full of assignments you have to do. 50 minute classes start to seem never ending. You have no motivation to cram for upcoming test. All you can think about how awesome the freedom of summer is going to be. Then summer quickly rolls around and you realize how bored out of your mind you really are. You are a broke student who spends their day’s binge watching Netflix. We all know that this is totally acceptable in the first place but here is a little list of fun activities to do on a day you are feeling adventurous.

1. Go explore

You would be surprised with how many unknown places you can find in the area you live. This could be anything from a cute coffee shop, yummy restaurant or adorable boutique. These undiscovered gems can be found with the application, Foursquare, which is free! The application allows you to plug in a location and activity you are looking to do. This is handy for a day of venturing out!

2. Get your nails done

Every girl deserves to treat themselves. Go get your nails done to feel fancy and polished for the week you have ahead.

3. Find a smoothie recipe

Why go pay $6 at Smoothie King when you could make the same drink at home? There is nothing better than a delicious and free homemade smoothie. Find a smoothie recipe for your morning cravings. It is even healthy for you too.

4. Tie dye

Feeling like being a hipster for a day? Not a problem! Head to your local craft store to buy a tie dying kit and some cheap white shirts. This can easily fill your day with groovy music, good company, and cute summer clothing attire.

5. Go to a concert

Whether it cost you $90 or $10 make time to find a concert you like in your hometown! Is it really summer without hearing live music?

6. Sell your old clothes

You know all of those clothes shoved in the back of your closet that you “might wear sometime”? Chances are that you probably will not wear these items. Gather up your old clothing and head to your local resale shop. It is time to make some easy money for all of your wasted space.

7. Go on a shopping spree

Now congratulate yourself! Head to your local mall or favorite store to splurge on new, trendy clothes with the money you just made.

8. Sonic happy hour

Sonic happy hour goes from two until four in the afternoon. Head to Sonic for half price drinks and slushes on a gorgeous day.

9. Make a friend with a neighborhood pool

It is finally time to get that summer tan on! This can be difficult if you don’t have a pool in your backyard or prepaid pool passes. Make a friend this summer who has access to a neighborhood pool. A neighborhood pool is the perfect tanning destination when you are wanting to lay low and have a relaxed day outside.

10. Read a book

Make yourself read at least one book this summer. I promise it will make you smarter. You might even enjoy yourself too!

11. Buy morning donuts and watch the sunrise

Who doesn’t love splurging on early morning donuts? Pressure your friends to wake up at the crack of dawn so you can have a stunning view while you eat your breakfast. Remember it is summer so you can head back to bed immediately after.

12. Take a late night drive

Late night drives can be extremely satisfying. It is never too late to cruise around town blaring music with your windows down. Bored? No problem. Hop in the car and drive your worries away!

13. Food trucks

Food trucks are the newest movement and popping up all over the place. Look up when food trucks are going to be in your local area. Pack a blanket, speaker, and some sunglasses to spend an evening in the park trying some funky foods.

14. Splurge on new movies

Without "Blockbusters" around these days if can be hard to find classic movies you have been wanting to watch. Make a must see movie list at the beginning of summer. Spend a day searching for these movies for nights you feel like lounging around the house.

15. Paint a cooler

Who said coolers are only for frat boys at formal? Create your own cooler this summer while you are binge watching Netflix. This bad boy will be convenient for sunny days spent at the lake and beach this summer. Grab some paint and brushes and get to work.

Last but not least, HAKAS folks.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
