SUMMER 2K16 IS FINALLY HERE!!!! Hopefully you have started out the summer by traveling anywhere and everywhere. Maybe you took a quick trip to Europe or the beach. Or maybe after finals you packed up and headed home. Personally, I holed up in my apartment in Baton Rouge and watched the first three seasons of Teen Wolf. No, I'm not proud, but Dylan O'Brien is just SO HOT. Regardless, we all need something to keep us occupied this summer. Whether you're between trips or just looking for a break from summer school, here's a list of five things to do other than binge watch TV.
1. Read a Book
I have a general rule of thumb where, if a move is based on a book, I have to read the book before I can go see the movie. I know it sounds intense but you may enjoy the movie more having some background info from the book! I suggest Me Before You, Through the Looking Glass, and Inferno. Also, if you haven't already, go read the Divergent series as well as The 5th Wave- you will not regret it!
2. Go to a New Place
GO SEE THE WORLD! Seriously- grab a friend, pack your car and go! My bucket list this summer includes Houston and Dallas, Texas and St. Francisville, Louisiana. Garden and Gun wrote a great article about the plantation tours in St. Francisville that I have been dying to try! Hopefully there is a trip or two to New Orleans in store for me this summer as well!
3. Eat at a Different Restaurant Every Week
I have developed a terrible habit of only eating at about four restaurants on repeat. It usually goes from Greek food to Thai food to pizza and then Mexican. This summer I am challenging myself to eat at a different place every time I go out to eat. Who knows, I may find my new favorite place!
4. Try a New Work-Out Class
Ok, so between you and me, kickboxing is the ish. In Baton Rouge, there are multiple UFC boxing gym locations. They let you take one class for free to try it out so grab a friend and go! If kickboxing isn't your thing then you should check out Tread BR for cycling classes or even the UREC at LSU for fun classes.
5. Go to a Museum
Since I'm not from Louisiana, I have never been to the World War II Museum in New Orleans. I know, it is shocking, but in my defense the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coke rock. Also, have you seen the South Carolina State Museum recently? That place is pretty hype.
Now don't get me wrong here, there is absolutely nothing wrong with watching Netflix all summer. As much as I love all five of these ideas, does anything beat your bed and your favorite show?
