School is filled with tests, quizzes, and exams; there are a million and one ways to study for them, too. As important as it is to learn to learn in school, it is even more important to learn outside of school. Learning never stops for an individual, but just as the posters in a classroom say "Knowledge is Power." The more an individual knows about themselves, their subject, and how to go about the situation; the more successful they will be in the long run. Everyone studies in a different way and has their own little quirks. Sometimes, though, it can be good to try and change it up. It is also important to lift your eyes from the books and find the information through experience. With midterms and exams coming up, if you're feeling unmotivated or worried that your study tactic isn't working, you should try something new and see if it works.
1) Make yourself a schedule.
Keeping yourself organized in your routine can also help keep your thoughts organized.
2) Keep notes and work space neat.
It's a lot easier to find things this way.
3) Make a study group.
People are going to point out things you never even thought about.
4) Don't rely on inspiration for motivation.
5) Flashcards.
Take the time to make these, then use them throughout the day. It's so easy to carry or post on the mirror to study while getting ready.
6) Learn about the subject outside of class.
7) Give your own definition or description of a word or situation.
8) Constantly ask, "Why?" or, "So what?"
This makes your point clear and helps you to connect it to older material.
9) Practice testing.
Make practice tests online in study groups.
10) Use new information outside the classroom, in conversation with friends or family.
11) Take your study guide to the gym.
Read a book, article, study guide, or flashcards while on the bike or quizzing others on the track.
12) Take a break and take a walk.
Cramming a bunch of information only works for certain people and is usually not recommended.
13) Read your study guide out loud.
14) Make your own study guide.
On word or through powerpoint is probably the easiest.
15) Reward yourself. (Try for a healthy drink or snack, try)
Put little snacks at the end of each paragraph or unit that you study. Motivation.
16) Explain it to someone else.
You learn better by talking it over with someone.
17) Give it life.
Draw a picture, graph, diagram, anything at all.
18) Watch documentaries or videos on the subjects or read articles.
19) Use Google!
20) Music is important!
Study with certain music and then listen to it right before the exam.
21) Get plenty of rest and eat well.
You can't take a test and expect to do well if your body can't function.
22) Plan accordingly.
Make plans to study more than once before an exam or test.
Good luck to anyone about to take a midterm, exam, or test! Study hard, but remember that you are not defined by a letter or number. Life is full of tests, and second chances. If at first you don't succeed, stand up and try again. You only fail when you stop trying.
