It is that time of the semester again. Spring break is so close, yet so far away. All that stands between you and the beach are three exams, two papers, and a project. Midterms can feel just as oppressive as finals, and the weight of studying and packing for break can be a major source of stress. Since midterms may be the source of your nightmares for the next several days, here are some tactics you can use to make surviving a little easier:
1. Get on a regular sleep schedule. Getting enough sleep is crucial. Even if you think you could take your exam on two hours of sleep, you probably would not do as well as you would after a full night of sleep.
2. Going off of that, try not to pull all nighters. They are actually really unhealthy. Who knew?
3. Don't put things off. It is so hard not to procrastinate, but try to make the most of your time.
4. Go to the gym. Even if schoolwork is piling up, working out will make you feel productive.
5. Leave your phone in your backpack while studying. This will help it become less of a distraction.
6. Delete Facebook for the week. This will keep you from checking every notification as it comes in.
7. Resist unhealthy study snacking. You will feel better about yourself later.
8. Start your days early. Even if you think you work better at night, you'll be surprised at how productive early mornings can be.
9. Limit yourself to two cups of coffee a day, at most. Overdosing on caffeine is no fun.
10. Do a little bit of laundry each night and start packing ahead of time. This way, when your last exam ends, you'll be completely ready to leave campus.
Midterms are extremely stressful. Just try to remember that once they're over, they're over. Take a test and then put it out of your mind. The stress is awful in the moment, but soon enough you will be soaking up the sun with your toes in the sand.
