11 Struggles You Face If You Have Long Nails

Sometimes having long, gorgeous nails isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. Long nails are practically the hand version of high heels. They’re stylish, but they add an extra element of difficulty to previously simple tasks, like walking or opening a can of soda. Whether real or fake, you can attest to these 11 struggles if you have exceptionally long nails.

1. You constantly live your life in fear…of breaking a nail.

The fear of breaking a nail is in everything and anything you do. This is why shellac is your best friend. It makes your nails sturdier, therefore less breakable. However, there's no guarantee your whole nail won’t pop right off instead.

2. You get exhausted when putting on any piece of jewelry with a clasp.

Just forget about wearing a necklace or a bracelet or any piece of jewelry that has a clasp, for that matter. It’s not going to happen, unless you have 15 minutes to spare. In these situations, you need to call in back up, aka your friends and family, to avert the crisis.

3. You can’t be silent while typing on your phone.

If you type incredibly slow, silence may be a possibility, but what’s the point of putting yourself and whoever you’re texting through that kind of agony?

4. In fact, accurately typing full words on your phone is challenging.

You don’t even try to correct it anymore. Auto-correct helps with some words (if you even have it on), but sometimes you have to accept the fact that the word “you” is now “yoy” in your vocabulary.

5. Applying any makeup that involves using your fingers.

Putting on makeup is hard enough as it is, but with long nails it’s even worse. This is where beauty blenders come in handy. Either way, it’s important to make sure you don’t poke your eyes out.

6. Opening a can of soda.

Do you open that can of soda and risk breaking a nail, or do you have someone else do it for you? These are the tough calls you have to make every single day.

7. Putting contacts in.

Imagine the amount of bravery and dedication it would take to be someone who wears contacts every day while maintaining long, beautiful nails. People who live like this deserve an award.

8. Washing your hair.

Getting hair caught in one of your nails while washing it comes close to the level of pain and sadness experienced when one steps on a lego.

9. You have a love-hate relationship with finger foods.

It’s the sad, but true reality of having long nails. Eating a bagel without getting cream cheese stuck under one of your nails is a cause for celebration.

10. They can be a bit dangerous.

Believe it or not, long nails can get fairly sharp and are not always easy to control. Sharp nails come in handy for ripping open packaging, but sometimes you can accidentally scratch yourself or someone else. No pain, no gain.

11. You have conflicting thoughts as to whether or not you should cut your nails.

You love having long nails, but sometimes you want them to be short. Although, when you cut them, you have immediate regrets. Then, you do a 180 and start to believe short nails are actually nice and freeing. Moments later, you decide you want them to grow back ASAP. The cognitive dissonance is overwhelming and your brain may combust.

Long nails come with a fair amount of struggles, but it's all worth it in the end because you can always get the weird satisfaction of tapping them on the counter like a boss.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
