“The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
Sometimes we find ourselves so lost in our sorrows that we feel like we can never overcome this obstacle, and I am here to tell you, never stop fighting.
I’ve been told my entire life that happiness is a choice, and it is, but it is not a choice you make by waking up and saying “I am going to be happy today.” Happiness is something you surround yourself with. It’s the people that make you laugh so hard your stomach hurts. It's the scenery that lets you know you have a safe place. It’s knowing in your heart that God has a plan for you. This world can be so cruel, and every day you are surrounded by the negativity society throws at you, and sometimes, it’s hard not to let yourself feel the weight of the world, but never allow yourself to give up.
Whatever your battle is, fight it, and know that you are not fighting alone; you have a God that is giving you this battle because he knows that you need it, for whatever reason; the way you are feeling is all in His plan. Let your guard down, let Him carry your burden, and you will find happiness and a feeling of peace like you have never known.
Wake up every day willing to fight whatever God throws your way, wake up stronger than you were yesterday— you have to allow yourself to be happy. Your happiness, your self-worth, all depends on you. Nothing in this world will be given to you, and never allow yourself to blame others or become bitter. Whether you were born into your burden, or you picked it up along the way, you are the only person that can change it. If God has put people in your life that bring you down, then maybe your job is to bring those people up, or maybe it is for you to learn how to get rid of negativity on your own.
When it gets too hard to handle, and you don’t know how you’re going to carry on, there are two things you need to do: Pray, let every feeling you have out, allow yourself to break down if that is what you need to do, and allow God to take all of your burdens away. Secondly, breathe. I can’t tell you how valuable both of these are, they seem like the simplest of things, but they truly work. Even if you have to literally tell yourself to breathe, do it; I promise you'll feel better.
There are times in this life that your heart gets broken, some things just don’t make sense, and people that you love that aren’t meant to be a part of your story anymore. It is OK to be upset, but it is not OK to be defeated; pick yourself up, or rather let God pick you up. Turn the page, begin the next chapter of your story, and be the person that you were intended to be. Be a light; we all know the world could use a little more of it.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you, wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
