Stress. It is a word we young adults are all too familiar with. It has the ability to completely take over your entire body and cause you to hit a breaking point you did not even know existed. Quite frankly, it can scare the sh*t out of you. While we all handle stress in different ways, whether it be knocking back a shot (or seven), or shutting down all electronic communication devices and laying down for a nap, stress is something we have all and will all experience.
Stress for a control freak can be a whole other demon. I am talking from my own experience, in full admittance I am one of the biggest control freaks I know. For those seeking clarification, a control freak is someone who needs everything to go their way at all times. They need plans to be laid out in front of them, and for them to be followed in exact order. Everyone around them needs to be doing what they feel is the right thing to be doing. These are the people who are usually running high positions in their organizations, whether it be captain of a sports team or president of a club.
For me, my stress is pretty much constant. Even if I am taking a break from studying or sorority obligations or whatever else I might have my focus on, I am still thinking about seemingly 100 other things I feel I should be doing. Often coming hand-in-hand with stress are nervous ticks or outbreaks that affect you physically. Being as blessed as I am, these come in the form of huge hives that break out across my body and the incessant need to bite my nails. Cute, right? If you ever see me scratching my legs, arms, chest, or face, I give you full permission to come up to me and tell me to chill the fu*k out. Because chances are, it is due to being overly-stressed about something to the point I am breaking skin scratching away.
I am sure I am speaking for all control freaks out there when I say, I wish I could just "chill out". I would probably be a much calmer person if I did not insist on taking on so much and controlling each thing I pick up. But that is just how I, and many other control freaks out there, are. There is power in being a control freak. It shows passion and extreme dedication, and honestly there needs to be more control freaks out there, because let's face it, how would anything ever get done without us?
So let's hear it for the control freaks out there! Keep it up, even if it makes you stress and break out into hives and bite your nails down to stubs. Because at least this way you know for sure you give a damn about something. But, also remember to take time for yourself and try your hardest to "chill" like these crazy people keep telling you to do.
Never stop caring and never stop striving to make everything around you perfect!
