Like many of my fellow peers, I find myself constantly waiting for something better — a habit that I desperately need to break. Our generation is full of people who never swipe right, who buy five dollar leggings from fast-fashion chains, and who cheat on their significant others because they think they’ve found someone better. We’re so wrapped in waiting for something better to come around that we’re unappreciative of the things we do have. If we can’t appreciate what we have now, how will we appreciate whatever it is that we’re so desperately and constantly anticipating? And above all, we need to be willing to work for whatever it is we want. If we don't, is it worth having in the first place? There are two steps when you're ready to stop waiting around for better things to happen: stop wasting time, and stop waiting in general.
Stop Wasting Time
It's time to stop waiting for something better to come along and start enjoying what we have while we have it. What we’re so focused on wishing away today may very well be what we were wanting yesterday. It would be such a loss to miss out on enjoying every second of it.
When you find yourself still wanting better, that's when it's time to get to work.
Stop Waiting
If we're not satisfied with what we are lucky enough to have, waiting is not the answer. Abraham Lincoln said it best, "Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle." Waiting idly by for life to drop what we want in our laps is no way to live.
It's one thing to want something, but it's another to actually work towards it.
It is so, so important not to let chances pass you by while you wait for what you think might be better. Don't let a good opportunity to work for what you want pass you by while you're waiting for something to fall into your life. Life gives you lemons, but you're the one who has to make the lemonade (or the vodka spritzer, your choice). Life won't throw a pitcher of lemonade in your face — it's up to you to make the good stuff yourself.
The truth of the matter is, that whatever it is that you want so badly isn’t just going to show up one day. Work hard, pursue your goals and trust in yourself. And most importantly, stop waiting. If you want it, go get it. It’s as simple as that.
