Stop Chasing After Love Because You Will Trip

Don’t chase after love. It will come when you’re ready for it.

Don’t chase after love. It will come when you’re ready for it. I’ve learned that you have to love yourself first. I know you have all heard that saying, and you’re over it and want something real. Well, here it is. I’ll be real with you.

I look for love wherever it is. Maybe it’s because my parents got divorced and I look for the love in the books, and in the Nicholas Sparks movies. I want that kind of love. Yet I’ve never found it. I’ve looked for love in stranger’s bed sheets, and in party hallways. I’ve looked for love in dark places where the light doesn’t shine. I end up hurting myself looking for love. I end up breaking my own heart, hearing the pieces shatter against the floor.

You have to love every curve of your body. Ever stretchmark, and every flaw. The freckles you try to hide under heavy foundation and the scar on your knee. You have to love your stubbornness and your bad humor. You have to love the things you want someone else to love.

Daily, I still struggle to love myself, but I’m more confident than ever in a relationship. Because I have learned to love myself, and they love those parts of me too. Sure, I have my days where I hate my scars and my tummy. Yet the gentle kisses ease my soul.

Yet I stopped chasing for love when I got into this relationship. I was focusing on school, and vowed to my mom I was done with boys. After a summer of flings and heartaches and too many margaritas after the end of a new fling, I knew I had to take care of myself.

So, I stopped chasing for the first time in months.

When you stop chasing, something you didn’t know you needed or wanted will hit you like a train. Butterflies will fly into your stomach, and you will go to bed with a smile on your face. You will realize this is what you wanted all along. But the difference is before all of this happened you learned to love yourself.

It’s so important to love yourself, because if something ends and you’re left alone – you’re all you have left. You have to take care of yourself. You have to be that support for yourself. Love your own skin and the scars from your childhood.

Stop chasing for love, child. Love yourself first.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
