As the year begins to come to an end, people all over the country are starting to think about the things that matter most to them. For many, the holiday season is an opportunity to appreciate life in the presence of friends and family. People really reflect on the best things in life, such as love and friendship. These are the people who spend all weekend together on Thanksgiving, and maybe they'll find time to watch all the bizarre occurrences from around the country on the news the day after Thanksgiving, otherwise known as Black Friday.
Black Friday shoppers can be considered a rare breed. These people have a completely different meaning for Thanksgiving. A Black Friday shopper will completely blow off any family function to wait in line at Best Buy for that $10 flat screen TV. To give them a little credit, they may stop by the family Thanksgiving celebration just long enough to make some turkey sandwiches to eat while they wait for the store to open. For better or for worse, we all know someone like this, and it can be both humorous and frustrating at times. One thing I have to give these people credit for is their dedication. There's no way I would risk my life wrestling over a gaming console at Wal-Mart.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about saving money. I just think that the risk of having to pay for a trip to the hospital outweighs any money that can be saved on a new pair of shoes. There are also plenty of online sales. You can actually have deals delivered to your house, which is a much better option than being trampled to death trying to carry a new TV out of the mall.
Like with many other things, people seem to have lost sight of what really matters. Just hours after families are supposed to be together and thankful for the things that they have, there are people battling it out in a real life Hunger Games in the middle of a store parking lot. This madness needs to end. This year, we should all just stay home and put an end to this psychotic tradition. I know it won't happen, so I guess I'll just stick to sitting at home and watching the madness on the news for yet another year.
