Stereotypical White Girls

When imagining a stereotypical white girl, you often mistake her talents as her flaws.

Now that autumn has truly begun, pumpkin spice lattes have taken over the nation. However, much to my utter joy, Uggs have not shown up again. It appears that fad died, and will only live on in our cringe worthy memories stored next to legwarmers and perms. But regardless, with the onset of fall, “stereotypical white girls” have once again emerged. And with the phrase, “stereotypical white girl” plenty of images and phrases pop up in your imagination. Pumpkin spice lattes and Uggs just so happen to coincide with the cliché conception of white girls. And though SWG’s have an unflattering stigma attached to them, and sometimes for good reason, “stereotypical white girls” should not be underestimated.

SWG’s are infamous for their use of social media, such as Snapchat, Instagram, and Tumblr, however that actually contributes to their useful networking skills. Though SWG’s might vainly post selfies and update their statuses with vague, passive aggressive complaints, all that time on social media has taught them how to market to an audience, capture the publics’ attention, and predict trends. They know how to promote and sell an image, item, or idea. Women in general know how to market themselves, which turns into an ability to market anything. Paying attention to little details such as photographic lighting, wording, and timing add to their abilities to engage an audience. Even though SWG’s have a bad reputation regarding their social media obsession, the time they spend online leads to networking, marketing, and publishing skills.

Also, thanks to infinitely many hours online, “stereotypical white girls” understand technology and possess incredible research skills. Maybe SWG’s do not know about the internal structure of a computer or how the internet works, but they do know how to get around firewalls, alter settings like privacy, and find almost anything. Women are notorious for discovering information online. And usually people imagine women online stalking in order to dig up dirt on their ex, but their researching abilities go beyond. SWG’s can find financial deals online, connections between seemingly random events, and information buried in obscure websites, which can be beneficial in the job field. SWG’s know how to use the internet to uncover almost anything, which opens up a whole new, technological world.

To add, SWG’s typically are associated with brand name items such as Uggs, Pink, Starbucks, and Coach, just to name a few. However, brand name items come at a cost, and “stereotypical white girls” know how to pay the cost. By budgeting, using coupons, and sale shopping, SWG’s can afford to purchase higher end items such as MK or Pink.

Ultimately, stereotypical white girl traits can be virtues when used correctly and therefore the conventional white woman should not be underrated. Of course, not all white girls fall into the SWG pattern and these traits do not just apply to “stereotypical white girls.” Anyone can develop an obsession with social media or spend too much time looking at cats on the internet. By that same token, not all white girls care about brand name items or selfies. However, the characteristics commonly associated with white girls can actually act as talents. SWG’s can market, network, finance, and investigate. The negative, though humorous view on white girls often disguises their underappreciated strengths.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
