Finding inspiration is hard. Whether it's for an art project, a scene, or an Odyssey article (trust me, I can most definitely attest to this last one after having written 47 articles). But then I think about things that I love that show me just how much I have to be thankful for. And by this, I don't mean big things like receiving cash on my birthday or going on vacation with my family, but the little things in life that make me smile. Because if we all take a step back and think about those little things or moments that give us just a tiny bit of joy, then that makes life that much more exciting and make us that much more unique.
One day this summer, when scrolling through Pinterest at night, I decided to write down a few things that make me happy. It was just a few small things that popped in my head before bed. But the next day I kept finding things that I love in my life. And so this list continued throughout the summer. Now when I need a reason to smile, some creative inspiration, or just an extra ounce of happiness for the day to remind me how blessed I am for this time on earth, I look at this list. My list of inspiration includes..
Fresh cherries | Jazz music | Bubble baths | New lipstick | Sweet smelling candles | Petting puppies | Audrey Hepburn | Looking at wedding dresses | Big front porches | Vermont in the fall | Soft towels | Sitting by the Christmas tree and drinking hot chocolate | White roses | Listening to fall music while I drink Russian tea | Freshly painted nails | Blue hydrangeas in the spring | The smell of fresh baked cookies | Drinking sparkling apple cider on New Year's Eve | Pearls | Seeing someone's face after you give them a gift they love | Stationary | Freshly washed pillow cases | Bath & Body Works soap | Sunsets
So find those moments, things, or interactions with people that make you happy to be alive right now. Find those things that inspire you in the day-to-day.
"Let’s face it, a nice creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people; it does for me."
If Audrey Hepburn found some inspiration in a piece of chocolate cake, then we can all find something in our lives that inspires us to create and keep going on the tough days.
