8 Things To Do on Your Spring Break Staycation

Even if you're not going on a vacation, you can still have fun

8 Things To Do on Your Spring Break Staycation

It's that time of year when you have that mid-break in between the end of fall and the beginning of Spring, a sort of kick-start to Summer vacation. Yet for some of us, we can't afford the time and luxury to go off on a vacation. If you're like me and your Spring Break is a word which here means Staycation, here's a list of things you can do during the time you're off although technically not going on a vacation.

1. GET OUT.

Seriously. I know there's not a lot of time to go off on a vacation, but this still resonates. Get out of the house. Go for a walk. Jog. Take a water-bottle. Bring your dog, too. You could use the exercise. It's almost Spring. Nobody walks anymore. A leisurely stroll is a gift.

2. Sleep.

Sleeping is just as important as physical exercise. Especially if you're a college student. Sleep in, nobody's gonna judge you. Who cares if you wake up at 2 in the afternoon?

3. Read.

Now more than ever is the most important time to read (given with all the problems of the world, but that's another story...). Read for entertainment. Read to increase your brain cells. There are plenty of YA books to read. I've compiled a list of books to read, some of which were on Barack Obama's and George R.R. Martin's reading list. Here's a few suggestions: Bernard Cornwell's The Last Kingdom series, The Golden Notebook, Parting the Waters, Brown Girl Dreaming, The Woman Warrior, All the King's Men, Lev Grossman's The Magicians and The Birth Dearth.

4. Binge-Watching.

Yes, dare I say it: Binge-watching. Remember that one series your friend showed you that you said you were gonna get to later. Now's the time to catch up. You can binge-watch all the episodes you can think of. Vikings, How to Get Away With Murder, The Magicians. Oh don't mind me, I'll just be watching an entire marathon of Game of Thrones, hours galore!

5. Get off of Facebook.

You heard me. Do it. Get up, outta the chair. Put down the phone. Stop checking your Facebook status. Tired of seeing Donald Trump in the newsfeed? Get away from it. Listening to the news is important. But there comes a point when you can overdo it and it gets toxic.

6. Go to the Movies.

There's a lot of movies out there and coming up soon. Logan. Lego Batman Movie. Kong: Skull Island. John Wick. A Dog's Purpose. Beauty and the Beast. War for the Planet of the Apes. Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Wonder Woman. The Mummy. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Power Rangers. Marvel and DC Comics are cooking up a few things. Grab a friend, get some popcorn and just chill.

7. Shopping.

This one may sound old-fashioned, cliche or outdated, but it works. If you've got nothing to do, grab a friend, go to your local mall and look around. You never know if you're gonna need a second pair of pants, tops, or what have you.

8. Local Beach.

This especially works if you're from New Jersey and can't make a lot of plans during the break. The beach is the one place to go to, to get out, have fun, or have a kickstart before Summer vacation.

Spring Break can be an interesting combination between relaxation, physical exercise, socialization and laziness. The list can go on and on and on, but the point is there's a lot of options to do in the small amount of time that you have over Spring Break. It's all a matter of using that time wisely.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
