Starbucks is known for their festive Christmas cups that they start selling every year after Halloween. Customers have strong feelings that these decorated cups make their Christmas season more spirited.
This season, Starbucks decided to take a new approach to their holiday coffee cups. They decided to make them blank red, so people could express their own stories and beliefs on them. But of course, this transition didn't go smoothly, because in our society everyone is offended by something.
This so called, “War on Christmas,” has sparked a lot of conversation especially from the Christian community. This change has caused a lot of controversy especially from Christians saying that Starbucks is "ruining Christmas," and that Starbucks "hates Jesus."
In seasons past, Starbucks Christmas cups were decked out with ornaments and snowflakes. While ornaments and snowflakes do give off festive holiday vibes, they are not a direct representation of the true meaning of Christmas.
While the cups this year are more bland than in years past, Starbucks definitely isn’t ruining Christmas for any one of any particular group. In fact, they are trying to be more inclusive to all of their customers with different religious.
If you allow the design of a coffee cup to dictate how your Christmas season goes, then you need to re-evaluate your values this holiday season. Christmas is not about the snowflake or ornament designs on your coffee cup, it is about the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. People tend to get caught up in the season and all of its trimmings and lose focus on the true meaning.
It is easy to get off track and lose the true meaning sometimes, but you cannot let a billion-dollar coffee company dictate your Christmas season. This is the time of year to celebrate what you believe in, and to be thankful for everything you are blessed with.
We live in a world where everyone is offended by something, and sadly this causes people to be very careful in how they market their products in order to be inclusive to everyone. Heaven forbid someone gets offended by a product advertising a belief other than their own.
This just goes to show people pick fights over anything nowadays, even the design on a disposable coffee cups, which if you think about in a larger context, is pretty comical.
But hey, if you're still upset about it, at least they’re still red.
