Coffee isn't the only thing that's been brewing lately in these coffee shops as Starbucks has been getting massive backlash about their choice of holiday design on their cups. There has been so much controversy surrounding these cups that people have taken to all sorts of social media to vent about Starbucks "ruining" Christmas. Essentially, people have been making Starbucks out to be the modern Grinch, ruining Christmas and every chance of joy that comes with it.
This issue has become such a global phenomena that Dunkin' Donuts decided to capitalize on this hate and create a holiday themed cup of their own, including the word "Joy" on its cup. Even Donald Trump has weighed in on the issue calling for a boycott on Starbucks because of their plain red cups, and he's not the only one who's thought this. That's right, people have actually called for a boycott on Starbucks because this coffee company decided to appease to a wider audience. There has also been a trending hashtag on social media, #MerryChristmasStarbucks, in which people tell Starbucks that their name is 'Merry Christmas' forcing the barista to write the holiday message on the customer's cup. The hashtag became popular after a man posted a video that went viral in which he talked about "Starbucks wanted to take Christ and Christmas off of their cups."
(The video is below for you to watch but warning: your IQ points will most likely drop).
Saying that a company is "removing Christ from your cup" is a little outrageous because let's face it, their cups in the past have never been "Christmas themed" – ever. One of the best parts of this video is the very first line he says, "in the age of political correctness." It's just so ironic how he can make a video talking about being politically correct when he is so far away from what's correct.
So, why might people be getting so upset over a solid red cup? My guess is that they are probably so bored with their lives that they have to get upset about something. And what's the dumbest thing somebody can think of in this world of "political correctness," a cup that will probably be thrown in the trash 10 minutes after you just paid for it. The biggest thing that upsets me about this topic is that people are essentially getting upset that Christianity is being "erased" from Starbucks, as if it was ever there to begin with. But also, the fact that people are so enamored with their righteous views that they would rather go to the very store they are protesting and still buy the product. This is essentially like getting angry at your partner for forgetting your anniversary and then going out to dinner to teach them a lesson. Sorry, buddy, but the only person who is losing in this situation is you. Wear all the Jesus t-shirts that you own and tell them your name is Merry Christmas as many times as you want but you're still buying their product.
